Old guy Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 While i agree that iphone app store is much more matured in comparison with android or windows app' date=' i think very essential apps can be found across all platforms. I think it is subjective i suppose. I hardly leave home. So i don't even use phone for anything. workstation is where i do everything. When i go out i occasionally use price checker app. Since i have GPS in my car don't need that as well. Using yelp to find restaurants is another thing i use for. Camera is another feature that i use regularly and music is an other. If Nokia can out do iphone in both these departments i see no reason why i should stick to iphone. I am not generalizing. This is just for me.[/quote'] so it matches your use scenario with me now a days i dont get computer for whole day and phone is only thing connecting me to internet and all other things.. about apps now a days google play store is just as good and in india might be even better but on whole app store of iphone has better quality apps and they still get most of them earlier than android but it is no longer a problem windows will take 2-3 more years to reach a stage where i do not worry about apps.. (yeah other might have more and better apps but it gets to standard which is good enough for 99 percent of people ) .. you should probably get lumia as its awesome in many ways and very fresh approach to ui ..and probably for you it has all things covered ..
Old guy Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 There isn't much wrong with the situation on Windows. :cantstop: For users like me' date=' its 101% perfect. :proud:[/quote'] well it was not good enough for my sister, cousin and 2 friends so there is def a problem and microsoft is improving it.. well for instance you want hangout app or recent bbm app ? now i dont use bbm but if i wanted i can get it on android and that wont be case on windows if i ever needed it.. hangout is one app which has become essential now (it iwll even receive sms after next update )you can also voice call form it and video call and it iwll receive all messages like from sms to gtalk so when you areo n internet and other guy also has hangout it will be free message and i also have option of using sms .. this app wont be on windows phone any time soon..now for people who do not use it does not matter but for people who have 10-15 friends on it it becomes a problem.
Old guy Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I'm pretty much like VVS. Not really into apps and I enjoy the games and other apps that Window's Store has got. Also' date=' Windows has got GFWL (Windows Live/Xbox live). [/quote'] that is hwy i am hopeful they can probably sync windows phone with pc or xbox and play console games in future :woot: in few years there will be only on OS (phone, computer everything unified ) and microsoft is going for that i think with windows phone.. but right now if i only have to depend on my phone for hwole dya and dont have pc i would not choose windows phone.maybe my mom will get it next week but i asked her to wait for next gen to come (snapdragon 800 and 1080p )
Old guy Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 ^ You got Viber for that. not every one uses viber and hangouts will become stock messaging(sms) app in android
SLICKR392 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 not every one uses viber and hangouts will become stock messaging(sms) app in android See that's the thing. Almost all my friend and every room mate of mine used Windows phones and hence Viber. The core reason that everyone brought is because we could sync it to the PC. :winky:
Detonator Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Honestly most ios/android apps are pretty much useless with a few exceptions like messenger service , maps and camera tools. Watever we r able to do in a web browser in laptops are just recycled and split into apps.

I paid for few and got pissed off. If you have access to browser you can do pretty much anything.

Detonator Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 difference is access to pc browser and not phone one u see, a phone is only slightly more accessible than a laptop. When we r cut off from a laptop, say when travelling, we dont use most of the apps like video editor, download manager, or even the games. A 40k phone cant do 10% of wat a 40k laptop does. the experiance is much limited in a phone. And most ppl who never bought a 15k lap r buying 30k phone bcoz, they can showoff their phone but cant showoff wit lappy I m starting to like windows phone in this aspect. They r treating a phone as a phone, not making gimmicks. They r making only essential things thats needed.

Yep, completely agree. Thats why I like nokia and microsoft, as they are trying to create only apps that are useful. they r creating a niche where phones are just used as phones, not the devices to drive off mosquitos and help us sleep.

Old guy Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 you see apps are ways to enjoy content we use on PC in phone ..web pages do not work as well now tell me how can i live without cricket streaming ? and this is just one example.. like i said if it works for you good but do not think every one else has same usage today after long time im browsing icf from laptop otherwise its either tapatlak or i use laptop for 15 minutes if i have time :winky:
vvvslaxman Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 difference is access to pc browser and not phone one This is how i view the scenario. I have been using desktop/laptop for numerous years. Just think about the amount of applications that were developed windows platform (windows 3.1, windows millennium, windows xp, windows 7, windows 8). It will be mind boggling. how many have i actually used. Well.. that wil be like 0.00001%. Why should it be any different for a phone. Why would i install 1000s of apps most of which i may never use. Some of my friends were app addicts. Then after a while uninstalled almost all apps.

At the end of the day how important apps are for you. In your case they are extremely important. So it is logical to go for platform which supports more apps. Majority do consider it as a requirement. All those who are in need of apps will have to be stuck with iphone for a significant amount of time.

vvvslaxman Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 Why did they downgrade the pixels from 41 mp (1020) to 20 mp? Also 3x zoom for 1020 and 2x zoom for 1520. If you are looking purely for camera 1020 is a better option by the look of it. Everything else 1520 simply trump 1020.
