Ponting's recommendation for abolition of the third umpire accepted by the ICC

Recommended Posts

In a landmark ruling today, ICC president Malcolm Speed announced that the ICC has decided to do away with the third umpire being called for line decisions like run outs and stumpings. The recommendation by the technical committee, headed by Gavaskar, was ratified by the ICC's executive council today and will be in effect immediately. The ICC technical committee has in the past made it's name by passing landmark rules like supersub and free hits, which have transformed ODI cricket into a nail biting carnival. The ruling was triggered by Ponting's displeasure at being given out stumped by the third umpire when he clearly thought he was in the crease. In a media statement Ponting said, "Mate, look we are here to play aggressive cricket and if that means standing out of the crease so be it". The statement caused furore in the cricketing fraternity and a study was immediately commissioned at the School of Zoology in the University of Tasmania. Extensive research carried out over the next couple of days revealed that the parallax affecting humans is different from kangaroos and in light of equal opportunity and fair judgement, kangaroos should not be penalized for this difference. Speaking on behalf of the School of Zoology and the Protection of Kangaroos society, Dr. McGrath said, "Look mate, there is got to be a level playing field here". The study formed the crux of the recommendation of the ICC technical committee. In a related development, Ricky Ponting has been awarded a special award for upholding the spirit of the game for "bringing to the notice of the cricketing world that the ICC stands for equality". Speed commended Ponting for his behavior during the 4th ODI between India and Australia which was the basis of these landmark developments.

whats it? Is it ICC or Ponting's own institution...that once he utters something and it is done...I believe 3rd umpire is a very good idea for an accuracy upto 1% error...Ponting became a part of that erroneous factor...!
