putrevus Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 ^ I dont think that after that West Indies gig even if he had done well he was going to be part of Indian team then, his performance in domestic cricket were not the best in the country since others who had better stats like Mukund already failed he got a chance as others like Rahane did not want to open , he got Mohali test and rest is history as they say. He has an been excellent so far but this is new season and new beginning, this is where flash in the pan and greatness start separating themselves. I really hope he does not get lazy like Gambhir and start developing bad habbit like poking outside offstump and lazy on field during fielding. Ashwin is also going thru same thing Finch and Aussies are taking attack to him and he is looking clueless so far.

Not trolling anybody or trying to mock CSK fans, but I lost a lot of respect for Dhoni on that day. Still rate MSD as a player, but the halo has slipped. People like Sachin for eg never shy away from the situation. Sachin always opened. It was not because pace but movement that trouble Dhoni and Dhoni knows his limitations and you cannot compare SRT to Dhoni. Dhoni is nowhere near close to SRT as a batman technically. Ashwin is a far better batsman than Dhoni in that regard and that is the reason he was sent ahead in that match with a strategy for Dhoni to stay back for end overs. Though even with such limitation Dhoni is a phenomenon in ODIs.

Scarves Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Its more of a question of which MJ turns up. A good MJ is unplayable by even the best. A bad MJ is as bad as Ishant Sharma. He was excellent for Mumbai in the IPL. In the champions league he was poor. The real question if MJ can sustain his good form through a 7 match series. In the recent series in England for the ODIs he had well established players like Trott and KP all over the place. The thing is that this Johnson is more good than bad by a long shot since he has returned. I back Pujara to not struggle as much but every batsman in the world will struggle against 150km with movement and bounce.

Since he has come back with an improved runup and landing, Johnson has been a different bowler and with those improvements, he has also gained a yard of pace. This is the fastest he has bowled till date.

Scarves Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Exactly this is the fastest yet most consistent that we have see Johnson ever. I still remember that he broke Sangakkara's hand and injured Prasanna Jayawardene as well. Can't forget the work over that he gave Dean Elgar on debut.

I doubt there was ever a left arm fast bowler quicker than Johnson.

I still remember when we lost Test and ODIs in England and our trundlers VK, RP, Munaf were thrashed around, selectors gave debut to Yadav and Aaron in tests and ODIs to instil some pace in the team and now we are going opposite of that again. Yadav finds himself out, Aaron is still making his come back in his state team and we are again back to square with Legend and Ishant not showing any improvement and trundling with not swing or pace.

He said he is bowling his 100% after surgery and training in NCA . I think he will be more potent this time.

But if does come back this month and stays fit , then maybe around next April he may be in the reckoning for India. Away tour to England could be realistic target
