Unleashed Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 People should trust their eyes rather than obsessing over statistics. Comparisons with Chand are wrong considering Samson was an hit in the IPL whereas Chand was found out. He's clearly a great talent but I don't think he's ready for the spot in the NT however I'll say that he's nailed on to become our next regular WK Batsman.

Could be slotted into the middle order in LOIs but we haven't seen a lot of him yet.
shortbread Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 He's not even a regular WK for Kerala. Could be slotted into the middle order in LOIs but we haven't seen a lot of him yet. I know that, this is where he needs guidance. As a youngster the flamboyance and glamour of batting can take precedence. But as a team player he needs to be multi dimensional and the only other thing he is good at is keeping. Also the board needs to start looking out for Dhoni's replacement. For all the drawbacks the guy has he is by far the most reliable Indian wk/batsman I have seen in my lifetime, post Dhoni I dont want to go back to the days where we need to try a new keeper every few months. The likes of Karthik, Saha and myriad of senior first class keepers will be mediocre with the bat at the international level and are not really long term bets!! This is why I think Samson can be groomed as a perfect replacement for Dhoni. He is not ready yet but he should be looked after rather than fall into the shadows and then forgotten!!

There's no guarantee that Samson will be a good keeper - if he turns out be an Akmal then it would be better to go with a more reliable keeper.
shortbread Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 There's no guarantee that Samson will be a good keeper Theres no guarantee he wont, especially with age on his side!! if he turns out be an Akmal then it would be better to go with a more reliable keeper. And what if he turns out like Gilchrist!! No one is saying draft him into the Indian team right now. Groom the boy and see how he develops. He is one of the best potentials out there especially with the bat.
Blue Star Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Pick him please. Massive talent this lad.
TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Pick him please. Massive talent this lad. He might get picked eventually, but not now. Will have to perform consistently at domestic cricket and 'A' tours to get to the national side.
Old guy Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Pick him please. Massive talent this lad. I see you are back again
