He is confident of a return to the Blue Billion Express after 60 days. With a hundred and a few good knocks in the recent India A outing, Robin Uthappa is hoping for a comeback into the Indian side. “ I would like to give myself 2 months more to train hard and play domestic cricket. A cricketer who has been performing consistently is picked by the selectors and am sure my hard work will pay-off," Uthappa told tadpoles in an exclusive interview. Uthappa, a member of the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa six years back, has been out of the side for low form. But he says, he may be down but not out. "I am happy to be among runs in the recent matches of India A, this has given me a much-needed confidence," says Uthappa, whose contract has been relegated to the C category by the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI). Once called “walking-assassin†for his ability to walk down the pitch and hit the ball out of stadium, Uthappa says he has hired Praivn Amre as a batting consultant and spent Rs.15, 000 per day to get his technique right. It worked for him. In the recently concluded New Zealand A series and West Indies A series, he was among the runs scoring 256 runs from 7 matches. And now, hopefully after two months, Uthappa will be back in the side.
