ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013

Some of the very best cricketers from ICC’s Associate and Affiliate members will assemble in the UAE next month when the 16-team ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 (WT20Q) will be staged across six venues in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. All 16 squads for the event, which will be staged from November 15 to 30, have now been finalised. At stake in the UAE will be the six available places in the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014, which is scheduled to be played in the first half of next year. The tournament will see the 16 sides split into two groups of eight, a total of 72 matches will be played over 15 days and the sides that top the two groups at the conclusion of the group stages will automatically qualify for Bangladesh 2014. The sides that finish second and third in each of the two groups will play cross-over matches with the two winners also progressing to the ICC World Twenty20 2014. The sides that finish fourth and fifth in each of the two groups will also play cross-over matches, with the winners of these two matches then playing the losers of the second v third cross-over fixtures; the victors of these matches will then also progress into the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014. Ireland will be defending the title it won in 2012, when it, alongside Afghanistan, qualified for the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012.

I really hope Ireland and Netherlands qualify to the 2nd round although Afghanistan seems to have a great chance of making it through too. In these qualifiers, I believe the 6 teams will be Ireland, Kenya, Afghanistan, Canada, Netherlands and Scotland ... Hopefully we will see something special from Nepal and Hong Kong too.

It's twenty20. Anything can happen. Though at home, Bangladesh should be clear favorites to cross the hurdle. It can be actually good for them to play these qualifiers since they will have match practice before they enter the real stage and play other big teams who won't be coming with great match practice. With small groups, match practice is a must where Bangladesh can use this opportunity. It's like a tennis tournament pre qualifying round. Sometimes higher ranked player who are placed in the draw, struggle to perform against the qualifiers.

i got your point but as you probably know every team is playing 2 practice matches before the actual matches! we're also playing 2 practice matches against 2 qualifies nations from zimbabwes group! and guess who India playing one of their practice matches against? A serious question to you guys ... do you guys think that this ICC WC 2014 Format is the proper way to go or not? I personally feel sorry for the associates and the host country. No host country should have to qualify, PERIOD! And the associates, if they are not allowed to fully participate against the big dogs in the shortest format of the game then WTF ICC ... pack it up and quit cricket. It ain't a 10 country show ... ohh wait a 8 country show! If a country like Afganistan can produce results like this in a small period of time then you already know other countries have talent aswell. Let them grow ... gosh man at this rate cricket will never expand.
