The US played blood money (diyat) to the victims under some archaic religious law and got him acquitted, something that would have never held in any modern court It does put the self-righteous statement of the US state attorney in context. When it is one of their own, the government is willing to ignore heinous crimes like murder to get him back safely to the US. When it is the citizen of another country , diplomatic niceties are ignored for non heinous crimes. The two wrongs being spoken of here are not on the same scale, not even close.

Rape in India are not limited to strip search. Plus one doesn't need to be arrested in India to get strip searched or raped. #2. Whom are we fooling; she was searched like any other person who was being held in custody. #3. No matter how it gets twisted, reality is that she broke the law and got arrested for that. Just because she was searched doesn't mean she didn't do the wrong thing.

Why can't the perverts just make them walk though some x ray type machine? Just because she broke some law doesn't mean she can be sexually humiliated.

Was she treated any differently and out of the standard protocol ? If she wasnt then its her fault that she broke the law. There is a reason for the search, plus she wasnt molested but felt violated. You never know she was anticipating her arrest. Certain things are absurd for you and I to even think but I guess they call them a SOPs.

Even ACLU is fighting this practice in jails where they do search grandmas like this who are in jails due to life imprisonment when their grandchildren visiting them. SOPs have to have a discretion that should be applied on a case by case basis. They are not bots/mechanized staff to follow SOP for every case.
