Dale Steyn becomes second fastest bowler to 350 Test wickets

Dale Steyn is not that fast. The max he can bowl is 90 mph. Which 5-6 mph slower that what Lee or Akhter used to bowl. Now a days he bowls at around 87-88 mp most of the time which is fast but by no means express.

I don't think any of Steyn's fans claim that he is/was the fastest in the world. Like Bond, Marshall, Waqar (early stages) or Donald, he has serious pace (ability to clock 140-145 regularly) allied to multiple skills including the ability of bowl probing line and length as well as control over swing.

Murali's 800 is a bowling record that will never ever be broken. The same also holds true for Laker's 19 in the match.

I don't know about Lakers record. It might be borken. Jadeja can break Murali's record, if he continues at this average and speed. But, I wan't to know if this record will ever be broken by a fast bowler?

Jadeja can do that - if he plays only against NZ, Bang, WI and Zim only in home Tests, and at around 10 Tests per year. Someone would need to play 10 tests per year, take 5 wickets per each test, and play for 16 years. That is the magnitude of the feat that Murali achieved.

He is going to last for a few more years. I expect him to play at the top of his level for at least 4 more years.

His average speed is 140 kmph and he can get over 145 if he wants to. To me, that puts him in the bracket of genuine quicks. It is very uncommon to see any fast bowler average 145 kmph, with the exception of freaks like Mitchell Johnson (who’s just an animal)

There's a reason Shane Warne's 702 is rated highly than Murali's 800. Around 176 of Murali's wickets came from Zim and Ban.

For a genuine quick to have a body that is durable enough to take 350 test scalps is remarkable. Obviously, he is not going to pass Warne or Murali in the overall tally and he may not even cross Mcgrath, to me, he is still the best bowler of our generation. You success should always be measured against the likelihood of that happening or not happening. Dale Steyn’s body is not supposed to last him 350 test wickets, bowling the way he does. Ask Ian Bishop, ask Brett Lee, ask Shoaib, ask Shane Bond, ask Jermaine Taylor. A lot bowlers have bowled fast but very few bowl fast and last for as long as Dale has had. Remarkable cricketer! As an opposition fan, his retirement couldn’t come soon enough!

Because he does not always try to bowl as quick as he can unlike Lee, Akhtar, Bond, etc. He knows when to bowl in first gear and when to switch it to 4th. Other than that, there is no visible flaw in his action which can lead him to back injuries likes Bishop of went through. Though he has had an elbow issue which has been consistently haunted him, but he is still only 30 and has at least 5-6 years of cricket in him, as he is very much bowling fit unlike our Zak, so approximately 40-50 tests. Even if he misses a few due to injury issues or rested, he can still play 30-40 tests.

I am thankful to the Gods that although I could not follow in entirety the careers of Richard and to a certain extent Malcolm, I have been privileged to witness the stellar careers of Wasim and Dale in full. And Malcolm, though you are first amongst equals in this gang, beware Dale can nudge you aside by the time he finishes.
