Should Kedar Jadhav be picked in the limited overs sides? [UPDATED 3 YEARS LATER]

He has the X factor......only if he becomes more sensible with his shot selection...he can make an impact in international level.... This IPL will be very imp for him.....few big innings will put enough pressure on selectors and DHONI How is his fielding??
I watched the Cricket India show after the Ranji Trophy final. Two players he said he looks up to is Sehwag and Dhoni. What stands out is his saying that he wants to learn how to be a good finisher from MS Dhoni. He certainly has a similar record in domestic one-days as Dhoni does, except at a much better strike-rate. Kedar Jadhav is yet to have a real breakthrough IPL season, and that's why he hasn't really caught the selectors' eye, because in recent times even if you've had good domestic performances, it's mostly good IPL performances that have been rewarded with a place in the Indian team. I don't think his fielding is all that great though.

He should have been selected in the Asia cup squad. After losing in SA & NZ ODI series, the selector should have chosen new players like him, instead of the tried & tested j failures

Exactly. Rahane is simply not going to be a good fit in the middle order in ODIs. He has yet to show the traits of a good middle order bat in one-dayers. It could've been the right time to bring in Kedar Jadhav. If he does well, great. If he doesn't, drop him. Our middle order is failing anyway, so it's worth trying someone else.

Interview with dna

kedar.jpg Many may feel that Rs 2 crore for Kedar Jadhav is a huge sum. But the Maharashtra middle-order batsman wasn't amused. The leading Ranji Trophy run getter scorer this season was Delhi Daredevil's uncapped players choice. "Actually, I was expecting a lot more. I have played in the IPL season twice. I am currently in good form and the highest run scorer in domestic cricket," said Jadhav who is one of the probables for the T20 World Cup. Jadhav was with the Royal Challengers Bangalore development squad to start with before being signed by Delhi Daredevils in 2010. He made a 29-ball 50 for Delhi against the Royal Challengers in his debut IPL match to win the Man of the match award. The next season, he was signed by the now-discarded Kochi Tuskers Kerala, for whom he turned up in six matches. Monies aside, the Pune based player said he was happy to be back with the Delhi Daredevils. "I am happy to be back with the Delhi team which is more open and the entire team gel well, and it is easier to perform well without any external pressures," he added. Asked if he is expecting to play a bigger role this season, he said, "I would like to play a bigger role this season, but ultimately that is left to the coach to decide. I am hopeful that I would be playing a more responsible role for the team this time."

Thought it would be an opportune time to bump this thread since he played his first IPL game of the season today and should probably play a few more from here. Looked calm and composed during his little stay on the crease.

How did he bat ? I know this guy can hit and probably is perfect guy to replace some one in lower middle order and he looked fairly calm in ranjis a cricketer who is ready and near his best.

Kedhar should play right away in ODI side in England and Australia to give him exposure to pitches which have more pace and bounce. Looks like a good hitter and has a good FC, List A record. Should play either at 4 or 5 in batting order.

without a doubt he should be playing at no 4 in eng in odis. not just coz he is playing well in ipl as ipl performance alone should not be the criteria for india selction. but he has been exceptional in domestic last year. apart from jadhav, kl rahul and karun nair also looks good for india selction. both had very good domestic seasons. don't think samson is ready for india job yet. he needs 2 good ranji seasons (probably with 45+ avg) before drafting into indian team.
