What differences have you noticed living there?
Ram Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 Are you saying this mainly because there are lotsa Mormons there? What differences have you noticed living there? Yep , this is truly Mormon country. The first thing you will notice if you come to a Mormon town is , the streets dont have names at all. Its all 100 North , 200 North ..... ie - parallel streets named in the ascending order. Religion plays a huge role in these peoples' lives. If you are Mormon , then you have to go on a 1-2 year mission for the church to some country, be it Latin America , S.America or even Europe. So you have many students taking a year long breaks from school to go on such missions. People get married by 20-21 , have 4-5 kids atleast and whole society is very family oriented. And the thing that is starkly different here when compared to America is - The people are very conservative. Rarely do people drink/smoke. In fact the only people you find smoking on campus are Indian or Chinese students. Youngsters dont date , girls dress VERY conservatively ( the only time one can see skin is when they go to the Gym). Night life is almost non-existent. The whole town just becomes desolate after night-fall. And not to mention about the weather. Utah has one of the most fickle weather conditions around. I have myself seen Snow-Sun-Rain on three consecutive days. Summers are oppressively hot , winters are bitingly cold. Its like a different place every 4 months ! :D
