Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden are among an extensive list of Australia's frontline players who have signed with the Indian Premier League, according to a report in the Sunday Age. The paper said the BCCI had outlaid more than $2 million to secure the stars for the Twenty20 tournament. Andrew Symonds, Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken, Michael Hussey, Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson were also reportedly on the list. The IPL has already attracted Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath, with Simon Katich and Jason Gillespie also set to play. The paper reported that Neil Maxwell, a player agent, will hand the groups's IPL contracts to Lalit Modi, the BCCI vice-president, in Dubai on Sunday. Next year's tournament is likely to take place in April, meaning several of the Australian-contracted players might be unavailable as the team will tour Pakistan and West Indies around that time. Australia's states also have questions over who an Australian player would represent if their Indian franchise and their home state both reached the Champions League following the IPL. "We're still very much at the thrashing-out stage, but I've been led to believe that if that happens, someone like Brett Lee's first commitment would be to his home state," Dave Gilbert, the chief executive of Cricket New South Wales said. "These sorts of things must be spelt out at the start, so there can't be any grey areas. It would be good to get this worked out as soon as possible." © Cricinfo -- holyyy shittttttt ICL ki khatiya khadi hone waali hain

I have serious doubts about IPL taking off. It's going to run by the same jokers who haven't been able to find a coach for their side after 8 months.
The moment BCCI will scent money, it'll go all out to achieve it and handle it in the most professional way you can imagine. And IPL is all about money. BCCI will work till the last ounce of energy to make it sucess. So it'll take off! Sachin, Saurav and Rahul not for sale: You can't bid for Sachin, Saurav & Dravid 1 Nov, 2007, 1300 hrs IST,Sonali Krishna, MUMBAI: All the die-hard fans of the three legendary cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid fret not! BCCI, after much debate and discussion, has decided not to put the three stalwarts up for bidding for its home league — Indian Premier League (IPL). BCCI sources confirmed to ET that the IPL executive committee thought that the three players in question were far too involved and affiliated to their respective cities. Hence, the BCCI has decided to keep the players out of bidding for two years. Once the format gains momentum and the league gains popularity, IPL will then follow the English Premier League format. Sachin Tendulkar will play for Mumbai, Saurav Ganguly for Kolkata and Rahul Dravid for Bangalore. BCCI insiders pointed out that the bidders for owning these three cities will have a condition in the contract which will stipulate that these three players will be attached to the three teams. The franchisee will have to pay the players some percentage above what the highest bidder has been bought out for. The decision has been made keeping in mind the Ranji Trophy matches, where players represent the states they hail from. With the fear of the three players being hooted out of their own cities, if they were to be bought out by some other city, the BCCI decided not to go all out. Lalit Modi, vice-president , BCCI, refused to comment on the development. Meanwhile, the IPL governing council has invited the three broadcasters — ESPN Star, Nimbus Sports and Sony Entertainment Television — for making presentations for the award of broadcast and media rights on November 17. The presentations will include promotional strategy of IPL, advertising rates projection for IPL and other ancillary and programming support. While the meeting on November 17 will be held to discuss non-financial issues such as capabilities of a broadcaster, the tender document for the bid will be available from November 21 to December 7. The winner of the media rights will be announced by BCCI on the December 7 itself. So there you go!
