There was news flash on television that his vehicle was involved in an accident during the time of his felicitation ceremony. He has injured his foot and was taken to hospital. Bad start to the career :(

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Praveen Kumar met with an accident in Meerut on Monday afternoon while taking part in a procession organised by his fans. Praveen, who has been named in the Indian One-Day team for the first two matches against Pakistan, was hit by a car and taken to the nursing home immediately. Doctors conducted a X-ray and said everything was fine. This is the first time the UP all-rounder has made it to the Indian team. A function was organised and a procession taken out in Meerut by his supporters to celebrate his inclusion in the One-Day team. he is fine it was just a minor thing nothing serious. the whole parade thing was stupid .anwhat was more hilarious was when he walked out of the clinic the reporters asked him whether it was anything serious he said it was minor thing and he was fine . when the reporters werent sure even after that he told them" abhi kya kudh ke dikhaoon kya thikh hoon ki nahin dekhane ke liye:haha:

really its pathetic.... i saw the pic, the guy had a turban and lotsa garlands around his neck.. looked like some guy had won a parliment election or something.... fans r stopping to new low by doing all this stupid things... next they wil have a parade for being chosen for the state teams

he is from a rural area near Meerut... its an honor to represent India... just that sometimes people over do it

No it is not a stupid thing really. He is a hardworking lad who has come up from a town about which 95% of the Indians would not have known about. Yes it is easy to be born in Mumbai/Bangalore and walk to Shivaji Park/Local Gymkhana and completely different to be born in Merrut and have noone to look up to. Worse, with the politics around a player from Mumbai always gets a better chance than a player from UP. As for the parade part heck every few months we have a parade to honour Saregama finalists in their respective towns :D

Praveen's fans would mean his mates and gully people who watched him grow up? Or is it the entire city?. Would n't there be celebration in your gully if someone got selected to represent the national team in any arena?

Congratulations, yes. Phone calls, visits, wishes, yes. But not garlanded and paraded in open jeep like MLA :D Thats surely OTT for just selection.
arre he is not exactly from Meerut... anyways good to know he is fine...
