Texan Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 No wonder this guy wins elections in his constituency by huge margins 'Erase ink, vote twice': Sharad Pawar's comment kicks up a storm Mumbai: Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar kicked up a storm today with his comments on bogus voting at a function in Navi Mumbai. Mr Pawar asked workers of his party, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), to take advantage of the multi-phase polling in Maharashtra by voting twice - first at their hometowns and then at places of work. While addressing a gathering of "mathadi" workers (head loaders) who hail from Satara district in Western Maharashtra, the NCP chief said, "Last time (in 2009), the polling in Satara and Mumbai was on the same day and people went to their hometowns. But this time, polling in Satara is on April 17 and here on April 24." Mr Pawar went on to warn them to take necessary precautions. He added, "Do erase the ink mark which will be put when you vote first". Later in the day, Mr Pawar clarified by saying, "My quote has been pulled out of context. This meeting was not a political meeting or a rally. This gathering was to commemorate the death anniversary of Annasaheb Patil, their late leader. The head-loaders are a community from Western Maharashtra, who live in Mumbai. It was a comment in jest. My remark was with an intention to encourage people to vote. I request people to take the right message from my quote and abide by their duty of vote." The Opposition was quick to attack Mr Pawar for his controversial comments. BJP Spokesperson Madhav Bhandari said, "It shows how they have won seats in the past. It's a violation of code of conduct. We shall complain to the Election Commission but we are waiting for the waiting for the Election Commission to take cognizance of it. Not only is this a violation but it is also a crime to motivate or ask someone to vote in two constituencies." Mr Pawar, who is a veteran politician, will find it difficult to explain his comments. Sections 171D and 171F of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which deal with offences related to personation at elections, terms this as a cognizable offence and lays down a punishment of one year's imprisonment or fine or both. The law says, "who having voted once at such election applies at the same election for a voting paper in his own name, and whoever abets, procures or attempts to procure the voting by any person in any such way, commits the offence of personation at an election." Voting for the General Elections in Maharashtra will be held in three phases on April 14, April 17 and April 24. Satara district will vote in the second phase while Mumbai and surrounding areas will vote in the third phase on April 24.

bulbul Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The chance of dual voting by Tamil voters living in the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border areas, in the coming Lok Sabha elections, is a major concern for the officials as there is a wide gap between the elections in the two States. The Tamil voters are registered as permanent residents in the estate lanes and in the towns including, Kumily, Vandiperiyar, Perrumdae, Elappara, Udumbanchola, Munnar, Devikulam and in a number of estate towns in the High Ranges as they are living there for generations. Their names find a place in the electoral lists of their native place in Tamil Nadu too. A senior police official told The Hindu on Thursday that the chances of dual voting are high this time owing to the wide gap in the elections with April 10 in Kerala and April 24 in Tamil Nadu. A rough estimate states that there are over 40,000 Tamil voters in the estate areas and it may be difficult to monitor them as large number of them have been in the voters' list of the two states. Deputy Collector (Election) Madhu Gangadar told The Hindu that it was decided to strictly monitor movements of vehicles on the check posts at Kumily, Cumbom Mettu and Bodimettu to counter dual voting on the respective polling dates in the two states. He said that the porous border routes, which are being used to travel on foot will also be checked. Since the election process has been made transparent with electronic voting machines, it is possible to trace the voters too as the voters' list is available through the website, he added. http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/dual-voting-a-concern-in-tnkerala-border/article5809749.ece

Texan Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 For all those questioning about how the "indelible" ink can be washed off, I have a question (and a genuine one since I really don't know what the answer to this is): What happens when a person shows up at a polling booth with his arm in a sling and fingers taped all over? Will that person be allowed to vote in the sling?

Moniker is right here. However, a valid Photo ID proof could be anything including PAN card, Driving License, Passport, Bank Passbook etc. Needn't necessarily be Voter ID card.

The sole purpose of voter id is to show it for voting and may be for some ID purposes.
beetle Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Rin Works :D Nah...it doesn't.I tried it(not for double voting though:--D) because it looks so damn ugly. Mine was a bit messy. for voting you need a clean finger(means not voted earlier),name on the electoral roll and a valid ID proof.
