I hope he is not. It is very clear to me that he tried to save Meiyappan which is a crime in itself. But that can be excused if he is not involved in corruption himself.

So the board President buys a team and then buys him as the team's captain. What option would any player in the world have in such a situation? Say, please don't buy me, I don't want to be involved with you? The BCCI President shouldn't have been allowed to buy a team in the first place and all this could have been avoided

That is not an excuse for lying before an Supreme court appointed committee. He can be prosecuted for contempt of court if there is enough evidence that he deliberately tried to save Meiyappan. Fortunately for him it seems there is no concrete evidence and also that's not in the prime focus now.

In that case, he is a fool. The argument that he did is to save his employers is vacuous. If there is a probe against your employer and you lie to the courts in process of that probe, you cannot get away with saying that you were following the official company line. Doing so in the media or other interactions is different from doing it as part of a criminal investigation. You are opening yourself up to serious charges like perjury and obstruction of justice.

One needs to specify why/how was he under duress. Just saying "Under Duress! Under Duress!" has no meaning.

But in my eyes both of them lied under some form of duress, hopefully. That's what i was pointing out, what their lies meant to the trust i placed in the two players, not the legal implications of their words.
