Old guy Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Ok, Punjab has won too many games to not be looked at and analyzed seriously at this point in time. If you want to predict (at least with some sense of surety) the kind of success a T20 team is likely to have, the first thing to do is not look at their strong points, but what their weak links are. After all, it only takes 20 mins of mediocre cricket by a single player to flip a game entirely on its head (Hint hint – Yuvraj Singh during the t20 finals. :((). Without a shadow of doubt, bowling is Punjab’s weakest suit. Punjab’s core bowling is almost exclusively made of Indian professionals (with the exception of Johnson). They are average, but by no means formidable. Teams can target them big time. Sandeep Sharma, Rishi Dhawan, Akshar Patel are all young guys who are likely to melt when put under the hammer of some belligerent batting. Balaji is predictable, but he can be taken apart also. But clearly, their power-packed middle order is their biggest asset. But I will go to the extent of saying that if Punjab wants to have a meaningful shot at the title, Virender Sehwag needs to fire. If Sehwag succeeds, it will make Punjab damn near unbeatable, with Maxwell and Miller coming in after him. However, Punjab has gotten off to such an unbelievable start (5-0 record in IPL is no joke. The league is designed to have evenly matched teams), they’re almost already guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. Once they are there, there’s no telling what could happen as it is only a matter of having 2 good games and you are champion. Given Punjab’s frailties with the ball, the likelihood of them suffering from a heavy defeat is not very low. So it is important that they secure the top seed so that when that one bad game hits them in the playoffs, they still have time to recover and reach the finals. Just because they are Indian and youngsters do it mean they are weak Sandeep sharma has been best fast bowler in tournament until now and Kasar Patel has bowled much better than likes of jadeja and mishra And Johnson is just ace teams like csk do not even have a strike bowler About sehwag he has looked best batsman on tough tracks from all teams who played there and was unlucky to be given out last game and he actually is to,ing the ball well only problem is some one like mandeep singh needs to come I and replace pujara I just disagree about bowling they have one guy who can destroy teams I his own and seam bowling looks in great hands wi even dhawan hard to score off Only weakness is spin bowling and csk has badree in reserve

I am saying their inexperience and lack of international exposure can cause them to collapse if subjected to an onslaught.

Which already happened and csk does not has a strike bowler who can win games when batting do not only ashwin is while others just support And no death bowler with bravo gone No team is perfect but bowling is hardly a weakness for this team for me weakness is spin bowling on turners and batting they will need openers to do most of batting on turners and maxwell to fire bailey and others won't survive Delhi track if it's very dry ( it was better last season though )

At the end of the day, that is all that really matter in t20. How can i somehow circumvent your strongest players and exploit your weakest players for long enough to get a winning advantage? The team that can answer this question the best generally wins.

I totally realise that but I think bowling attack is doing great only weakness will be spin bowling ... They do not even open bowling with Johnson and still get wickets we are just really downplaying Sandeep sharma who shook the best top order in ipl on his own and guys like Johnson will always do well against ftb like even Raina They do not need international stars when with each match domestic guys are getting better ..teams like rr and kxip always have core of team which is depended on domestic talent and even when they get smashed they have batting which can chase scores on patta so to beat them you have to play well there is no weakness which you can exploit to get easy win .

Bleed-Blue Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Bailey pleased with bowlers' performance Kings XI Punjab's bowlers gave away 205 and 191 in their first two matches but their batsmen, led by Glenn Maxwell, chased both targets successfully. The attack has rebounded in the next three games, restricting Sunrisers to 121 after the batsmen posted 193, defending 132 against Knight Riders and keeping Royal Challengers Bangalore to 124. George Bailey, the Kings XI captain, was pleased with the way his bowlers were performing. "What's really pleasing about the bowling group is that they are doing well individually and bowling well as a group," Bailey said. "I don't know if that's visible from the outside, but we can really feel it on the field and that's really special. If you want to be a good team, you can't rely too heavily on one or the other (batting or bowling). If you look at the successful T20 sides in the IPL, they generally have a well-balanced side."
