SLICKR392 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I am not saying he's done bad outside Asia, but its no where close to what he has achieved back home. His LOI stats away are quiet poor too. By the standards he has set back home, its not that great.

Also even then he has den better than many people who are considered great so why does it even matter ?

In LOIs away' date=' he has done better than which greats?[/quote'] Even tendulkar has average stats away from home if you ignore neutral matches Also I judge batsman on performance in tests and even sanga has played many good innings in limited overs cricket ...he might have never been best of best in Odis but he has been consistent and you need players like him and in tests I have always felt he is class player If he played more he would have done more even away from home,..even against Johnson he was looking comfortable while rest of batsmen were getting injured and scared like poms he was hammering him before getting injury..I know that was pre ashes Johnson but he was bowling with fire even there which went unnoticed as it was just Sri Lanka batting who have historically struggled like most sub continent teams

He wasn't hammering him IIRC. Again, there is a massive difference between the Johnson now and then. Also, its recently that he started to play good ODI knocks. Earlier Mahela used to play better innings that him, that 140 in England. When was the last time Sanga scored a ton outside? And Sachin was not average away from home. He was pretty damn good in those days with a SR that overshadowed most players of that era. Sanga is not even half the batsman that he is away from home. And about being classy- even Rohit Sharma is 'class'. Lol

That speaks more about how he has completely taken advantage of favourable conditions and mastered them. That shouldn't be equated to some kind of a failure in away conditions.

But as of now his performance overseas hasn't lived up to his avg. AFAIK, the LOI stats away from Asia aren't that good either. There, its quiet clear he is an Asian might. Sanga chasing down Sachin's runs would only do injustice to Tendulkar's runs that he scored all around the globe. Its not like he's gonna do it anyhow unless he's got a bucket full of games in the SC. Problem with this is. He already has a pretty good away record even if he does not play away much. Imagine how difficult it can be to adjust to hose conditions when you have not played there much. The more you play, the better you can get to conditions that are alien to you. Imagine Dravid had not got to to play in 2003 tour which was his only real good tour in Australia and if people would have judged him based on 1999 Aus tour. He was neither really good in 2007-08 nor in 2011-12.
