i've said this before in the same thread as well' date=' none of sachin's so called records are real bonafide records. they show his longevity in the sport, not his superior ability.[/quote'] And how exactly did he get to those record without a 'superior ability'. Man! You lot are getting worse by the day.

Really need to ban these useless Lankan posters.Almost all of them are obnoxious trolls.Obsessed with the only decent batsman they ever got.Sanga is slightly better than FTB/HTB catagory but Lankan fans thunk he is a legend of some kind in catagory of Tendulkars and Laras and Pontings and Dravids. Some even suggest that he is better than these guys and only second to Bradman.

bradman is the only guy i would say is conclusively better than the rest. at the end of the day there isn't a lot to choose between guys like dravid, sanga, tendulkar etc. it's only the delusional indian fans who think tendulkar is some sort of untouchable demi god.

he got them through performing adequately for a long time. don't get me wrong, he's a great batsman but i don't really consider his records to be iconic. ...and his 100 centuries record is basically a made up stat.

Sanga avgs 40 outside Asia minus ZIM. Sanga avgs less than 40 in SA/ENG/IND/WI thats 4 of the top 7 teams he has faced. Tendulkar avgs 40 or 40 plus in every country. Dravid avgs less than 40 in 2 countries. Both of them are miles better than Sanga the Whinga. Now run along to your Island cricket and make Sanga a legend there.Everywhere else he is not even close to Tendulkar.

You don't average 56-53 in 200 Test match without being special with a bloody good ability. Averages over 50 against Aussies and 55 against them during their prime period. A something Sanga could only drool about. Not a single cricket expert has included Sangakarra's name along with the likes od Sachin, Dravid, Lara and the other modern mights! Plainly because they are not blind folded to acknowledge the fact that there is more to cricket than stats and averages that you build solely at a certain part of the world. To call a staggering and an insane record like the 100 centuries made up and not a farce average of 56 and couple of double tons in Asia by Sanga, shows hows delusive one could be.

Totally agreed. And to go on that, I think Dravid and Sachin averages more away from home. I saw this stats during one of our home games. Sanga averages 40 overall in overseas bar Zimbabwe. Before people leap into his adequacy away from Asia, he's played enough games in these part 'combined' to judge his 40 average that contradicts his actualy 56 . Also, I saw someone stating that Sanga is better than VVS, has any Sri Lankan played a single match winning knock that is as good as Laxman's against the Aussies, both of them in Kolkata and Adelaide?

backstabber? why should sanath j have any loyalty towards an indian domestic franchise cricket tournament that hardly any sri lankan watches?
Answer me. Why did lankan board come with a begging bowl requesting series with India between 2007 and 2011, when the board was bankrupt, same as what PCB is doing now. Jayasuriya is back stabber because on one hand he says he supports big 3, but on other hand he does not let his players participate in IPL, but organizes test series somewhere else. Wait till your Lankan board get bankrupt again.

sachin's record has been helped by the number of matches they play and the fact that bcci loves useless odi tournaments. can't be arsed checking but i am sure arjuna ranatunge played for something like 18 years as well but he didn't even play 100 tests. i am certain that there have been cricketers who've played for longer in the international game than tendulkar but dont have the record since their boards didnt bother staging so many games. half the credit for tendulkar's record should go the bcci.

what begging bowl? :haha: this is such an indian sounding post. sl asked for more games from the bcci for their continued support and the bcci had to agree. the slc pretty much had the bcci on a leash back then. sl will now be forced to control their excesses and make do with the money they make (which is more than enough really) and that will be a good thing. and jayasuriya is a selector. he doesn't run the slc.

if you think SLC is not begging for matches , i wonder what do you consider it as begging ? :hmmmm: SLC might very well kneel down and lick our bosses if bcci asks for it in exchange for a series

u were mistaken. the submissive indian cricket board were kept on a leash by the corrupt sl administrators who forced india to hand out series when they were running low on cash. things will hopefully now change for the better as our relationship with india is weakening. i think the last thing any sri lankan wants as they are trying to find their way back is to be associated with a corrupt board like the bcci. has the bcci chief being in thrown in jail yet for fixing games?

And if you really think that Sanga is in the same bracket as Tendulkar, Dravid, Lara and Steve Waugh, you don;t know your cricket. he is in the next class- the one where magnificient and also ATG batsmen like Ponting, Kallis, Sehwag resides. There's been only one other batsman who's dominated his era across multiple types of international format much better than his contemporaries and that was Viv Richards. Two other batsmen who were also, significantly more dominant than their contemporaries, throughout the majority of their careers, would be Sobers & Bradman. And your precious Sanga's average too might plumet. You forget that Tendulkar himself was sitting at 14K+ runs at nearly Sanga's average despite being older and then it declined steeply. So, against that, even Sanga's exceptional record built against weak oppositions and mostly at home still doesn't quite stand up.

Err, you are a kid. That I can say from such a narrow view of Indian cricket. India played significant amounts of test cricket starting 1997 or so. Since then India has played a steady amount of 9-12 matches almost all seasons, with a freak exception of 6/7 here and there and a freak exception of 14-15 here and there. Austria and England, throughout Tendulkar's career, played much much more test cricket. Tendulkar also would've had more runs if India had played more cricket till 96. In the 90-96 period, Tendulkar played 42 tests, despite not being injured at all. Thats averaging 6 tests per year for better part of a decade (7 years). During this period (90-96), he played 133 ODIs, which is less than 20 games per year- not a huge workload either. Reality is, if India had played as much cricket as Australia or England in this period, Tendulkar would've easily scored 18K+ runs, had about 55-60 centuries and averaged 55+, since this period of his career was also near his prime for the most part (tendulkar was in ATG performance mode from 91 onwards) Sanga is a great batsman. So is Mahela, though he is more of a homefield bully than anyone else. Kallis and Ponting, along with Sehwag are once in a generation batsmen too.Dravid too perhaps but Dravid was fundamentally a more reliable batsman for all types of situation than Ponting or Kallis at his peak. But since the mid 80s, when Viv declined, there have only been two batsmen who are head and shoulders above the rest: Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar. Of them, Sachin is better. It is actually the modern parallel (though not as pronounced in numbers) of Bradman and Hammond. Like Bradman and Hammond, Lara and Tendulkar are the two greatest of the era. The Karna and the Arjuna. Like Bradman, Tendulkar was easily better than his chief rival. The difference is, bradman was unquestionably better by being more prolific by a huge margin, Tendulkar is unquestionably better than Lara by being more prolific by a smaller margin but decisively through the attributes of precocity and longetivity. So much so that Lara himself has said Tendulkar was the best batsman of his generation.

What you did not realize is that some one good enough to play for 22 years at the highest level for a nation which gives very stiff competition in the batting department must be very special. Ranatunga would never have made his way into an Indian test side, leave alone play for 18 years.
