Won in Eng,- after 1986 won in NZ- after 1967 drew in SA -for the very first time after plenty of embarassments in aus- one drawn series in 33 years and plenty of losses. till 2002, there was almost a 16 yr gap in a win outside the subcontinent that level was achieved after plenty of failures and almost a decade of team building since 1996... we collapsed even against zim in 1998 chasing 231. we collapsed against zim in 2001 when we were 130 ahead and around 7 wickets remaining. after a test win in WI in 2002,they slowly built to a level where they were more competitive overseas. our bowlers were largely crap even during this period.in bowler friendly conditions, they were able to drive home the advantage from time to time. we are basically a batting side..we cannot win by our bowling
On the contrary, all the wins/draw we had, it was because our bowling stood up. Batting had been consistent, bowling was the X factor Secondly, though we all know how our bowling was pre 2000, we had seen a mark improvement post 2000 People think our bowling has remained bad, but there was a good period where the bowling was on an upswing with exciting talents. We also have captains who made use of them in the best way. Slowly but surely, we were getting there. But in the last few years bowling has taken a giant step backwards and all the improvement we had has been destroyed. There seems to be zero plans from the management or captain to arrest this. This is what hurts the most,

How does Shastri get a contract to analyze a game is beyond me. This is a team event, the need is to go for everyone and not just one player. Just take example of basketball when you go after a player he realizes some one else is free. Stupid stuff from shashtri.

I was referring to his commenting on games and being an analyst for long time. There are 11 players on team and all need to be targeted.

Can our openers set the platform? In tours of NZ and SA not once did Vijay and Dhawan post a 50 run opening stand, they had 8 attempts. Its crucial they do this. Can they deliver? Big question marks on both. This series will decide both their futures me thinks!

im sure there was a 50 stand in NZ. but yeah, il give them trent bridge 2 innings. thats enough to juggle the combo. If dhawan struggles, i would put him in the mid order at 5 and drop rohit. He might do better there, and he's a gun player. Get GG to open if you want left right combo. If vijay fails, then just drop him.

If they can see off the first 30 overs even scoring only 20 each they would have done their job.
no way.. i know its test cricket but we need runs too. if its not that bad of a pitch, id expect one to get 50+ atleast. just get singles, put bad balls away

A 100 runs opening stand in England is enough for Pujara and Kohli to cash in. I don't trust either of the opener, and neither do I trust Gambhir. Bottom line is we don't have any reliable openers in the squad. Crucial to have good stand since we might play 5 bowlers and tail will begin after Rahane.

Dhawan did well in the CT but those were flat pitches. I think mooli has a better defensive technique that will be more suited to seeing off the new ball in swinging conditions.

The question marks aren't as big as the opening disaster India had in the previous England tour!!! That too after the bhaashan that 'me and Sehwag' average 50 so we should keep opening till 2030!!! As long as Dhawan and Vijay are able to see of the new ball and one of them sticks to the crease then it bodes well for rest of the batting line up. They were able to pull this of most times in SA and NZ. Its best we show faith in this opening pair rather than chop and change. GG is not in epic form either to replace Dhawan or Vijay. Its not like they had a rope as long as certain tailunted batsmen in the team.
