Gogoi's former right hand man to join BJP as RSS quietly moves into Assam

With the election for the Assam Assembly due in April next year, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh has also quietly shifted its focus to the state to help BJP win a ruling majority in Dispur, the state's capital complex. The BJP is upbeat over its chances in the state as it won seven Lok Sabha seats in the last parliamentary polls wiping out the Congress domination for the first time, which won a meager three. The RSS began its focus in the country's North East, particularly Assam, soon after the conclusion of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The organisation is also likely to send BJP general secretary and RSS leader Ram Madhav to strengthen the saffron party's chances in the state. Assam has a total of 126 seats in the Assembly.

Mukul Roy is all set to form his own party before Kolkata Municipal Election later this year. There is a possibility of an understanding with the BJP.
this is good news... Manjhi by another name. He should poll between 5-10% of the vote.

No room for criticism or dissent in BJP . Pernicious personality cults infect most political parties in India and BJP has always been susceptible. On Monday,BJP' s Agra unit dismissed its local media in-charge Rajkumar Pathik for posting a poem critical of PM modi and the party's support to Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and his party PDP's acts in Kashmir.

" Talking to India Today, BJP city president Gama claimed that the post had used very strong language against the Prime Minister and Mufti Sayeed and he was removed to maintain discipline in the party cadres. He said an inquiry has been setup against Pathik inside the party's city unit."

^ right thing i do. Even i am seething from the actions of the PDP but you dont wash your dirty linen in public. This is about discipline and not about a personality cult. I would not want BJP leaders to speak out openly against even the PDP. Internally they need to make their voices heard. Democracy does not mean an AAP style battle royale via blogs and twitter.

Those denied tickets by Trinamool, approaching BJP: Rahul Sinha

State BJP president Rahul Sinha on Tuesday claimed that several Trinamool Congress councillors, who were not given tickets for the upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls, were approaching the party leadership. “Not only their councillors, many leaders too are calling us for tickets,” Sinha said on the sidelines of a press conference. Claiming that media reports stating that BJP was finding it difficult to find candidates was incorrect, Sinha said the party has received 1,753 applications for the 144 KMC seats. “Among those, around 40 per cent are from people who have no links with politics… This shows that even common people were interested in BJP’s policies,” he added. The BJP chief further said that while the party was supposed to release a list of candidates by March 10, it has been postponed to March 16 because “it was an onerous job to screen through the applications”. “It had been easy for the Trinamool because they had either named sitting councillors or their relatives… While there are talks about Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee promoting her nephew, she has made it a point to see that several relatives of Trinamool leaders get tickets to ensure that no one points a finger at her,” he added. With the CBI reportedly seeking details of contributions from the controversial Trinetra Consultant — between 2010 and 2014, Sinha said: “CBI should try to trace the missing directors of the fake company because we think that they could have been silenced in order to keep the scam under wraps.” About demands that Mamata had put forward before Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the two met on Monday, the BJP leader said: “The CM has claimed that 90 per cent of the works have been completed despite the financial constraints. Now, after nearly four years of her tenure, why does she need financial aid complete the remaining 10 per cent of the work?”

tricky situation... you want to paint yourself as the alternative to the tmc. yet a lot of these people are known faces in their wards.... BJP central leadership should keep away from these municipal/panchayat elections. It will give them a chance to gauge how effective the west bengal leadership is. Especially in rural areas. I notice Nirmala Sitaraman has been given WB. Aim should be to emerge as the second largest party in WB. I expect the trinamool to come out on top. The Congress has collapsed in Kolkata with its members jumping ship. The battle for second with the CPM and BJP

Shah has chosen Union Health Minister J P Nadda to pay “special attention” to Andhra Pradesh, Power Minister Piyush Goyal will be the point person for Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will coordinate with the party secretary in charge for West Bengal, Rajiv Pratap Rudy in Kerala, Dharmendra Pradhan in Assam, Mahesh Sharma in Orissa and Hansraj Ahirwal in Telangana. The BJP could not get “adequate representation” in these states in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

BJP seems to losing any good perception in Bihar. The local leaders really need to get their act together like today in the trust vote, they had no strategy. Need to take Nitish head-on with a clear vision, can't leave everything just to Modi. Delhi was like a overhyped municipal elections but Bihar is one crucial election. Need to start early and avoid same mistakes like Delhi. Highlight the JDU-RJD unholy alliance, the Dalit betrayal and Laloo's conviction. Our media always had discussion/debate about communal party, but will they do the same thing for convicted Laloo/RJD. BJP needs to continuously reinforce the conviction and the betrayal to every Bihar voter. So media strategy must be fixed which failed big time in Delhi elections.

BJP needs allies for 1 more term in 2019... should not reveal all their cards now.

A few months back Smriti Irani was in the news for visiting an astrologer. Recently Amit Shah reconstituted the BJP National Executive and her name was not in it. A brilliant take on this: CAOT_1rUIAASebR.jpg IMO this guy is currently the best political cartoonist in the country.

In Bihar, BJP certainly is facing more challenges now than what they had anticipated. Their allies are asking for a lot of seats each due to the aftermath of Delhi elections. Thus, it's no wonders that BJP is being cautious and keeping tabs with Manjhi and even Pappu Yadav. BJP have to be vary of the selective (communal) reporting as well. That was a big reason for the Delhi defeat. It's a fight between perception vs reality.

Is that Paswan asking for more seats? I mean this guy's political career was finished before BJP gave him a new life with the 2014 election results. He should be forever indebted to Modi and take whatever is given to him.

Thats was always going to happen even without Delhi. With both alliances neck and neck the BJP needs Paswan and that other party. I am not too sure about Pappu Yadav. Get a feeling his end game is to emerge as the leader of Yadavs in Bihar finishing Lalu and this is the time he is making his move. Not sure how the BJP fits into this. I feel the BJP should wait and watch at the moment. Elections are a few months away and the situation can be volatile. Clearly if they are having problems with seat sharing then Jd(u) and RJD will have major problems as well as everybody cannot be accommodated. I think Papu Yadav and Sharad Yadav are from the same turf? Maybe Pappu has seen the writing on the wall and RJD will ceed to the JD(u) in that area while asking for gains in other areas?

In Bihar where caste plays a big role, Paswan will always have some votes. He adds that 3-6% which can be the difference between a comfortable majority and a close fight. So for LS 2014, BJP also benefited from him and vice versa is correct as well. And in upcoming Bihar state elections, BJP will need these local caste leaders even more .

All 3, Paswan, Manjhi, Pappu are opportunists. Paswan wanted to be cabinet minister and thus joined BJP. While now Manjhi & Pappu seems to demanding to become chief minister candidate to join BJP. And BJP certainly cannot have a wait and watch strategy. That's what it did in Delhi and failed as it reacted very late to AAP developments. It needs to contact different local leaders and particularly capture those 2nd tier leaders who will have not get any tickets due to the JDU-RJD alliances.

even they must know thats not possible. From what i am reading Manjhi and BJP will fight alone and have a soft pact with each other whereby they wont attack each other and the BJP will back off in seats where Manjhi's party has a real chance of winning and vice versa. By wait and watch i mean be in contact with everybody. They cannot make their move untill the alliance declares their own candidates. Only then will there be disgruntled tier 2 leaders. Which means waiting for Jd(u)-RJD to release their list and then picking up local leaders who missed out for your list. But IMO they need to wait for that list to come out. I am sure the BJP unit already has 243 candidates in its mind. They will need to question is the rejects from the rjd and jd(u) are big enough to win the BJP a seat. Obviously they need to start campaigning etc from now. Local leaders that is.
