UP-ites/Biharis are corrupt and unscrupulous characters. Bengalis and Maharashtrians only care about their own people. South Indians are weak and submissive. How true do you think these stereotypes are? Regarding the South Indian stereotype I've mentioned, I've met SI who are anything but submissive. All my SI friends are aggressive, in your face confident guys.

Actually, most Punjabis aren't any more aggressive than any other Indian. It's funny how many ppl of a community try to reinforce a stereotype just to fit in even though it may go against their natural behavior.

Each man is self-made, in his or her own way, with their own experiences and outlooks shaping the way the see and react to the world. Generalizations like this just add to the fake nature of people. Someone who can show a finger and puke the choicest abuse at the least provocation is somehow considered cool over someone who rather choses to ignore it, which is ridiculous. You are what you are. If you adhere to stereotypes, you are just living someone's else' life and there can be nothing more pathetic than that.

The only steriotype i can think of that IS true for most Indians ( though not for the North-Easterners, IMO they are the coolest/nicest Indians) is their cultural snottyness- where they hold this inherent beleif that their culture/philosophy is somehow superior to most/all the world and that they can teach the world more than the world can teach them about culture.

Proves yet again stereotypes are just that. Bongo has seen ppl and he has formed his opinions, yet Lurker seems to think otherwise. So even the "only" stereotype seems to be only that and not true. Each person is different, and you will find all kinds in any state, region or even in other countries.

I am not talking about immigrants here- immigrants are essentially the same animal the world over, regardless of where they hail from. Fact is, culturally speaking, India is remarkably ignorant of the outside world and remarkably snooty about it. The idea of teaching the Oboe at school brings in idiotic opposition as in 'why not the Sehnai ? its indian!', despite the fact that the Oboe is a significantly better musical instrument than the Sehnai.

I dont know if these can be called stereotypes, but there are certain common traits that i noticed in Indians who live abroad -- The "Me First" attitude -- To do whatever it takes to somehow get the job done, and i mean it in the negative sense -- VERY VERY money-minded. Every life-style affecting decision of their starts and ends with money -- Risk-averse. -- VERY mediocre life-style. For many the day starts with brushing the teeth, ends with falling tired on the bed, with something happening in between I myself am guilty of couple of things that i have listed above. I guess the insecurity of living abroad makes many of us compromise on literally every aspect that can be compromised. To put it blandly, many dont have a lifestyle, they just have a life.

Our language of communication is a non-Indian one, our movies are influenced by movies that are essentially non-Indian, our policies are becoming close to external powers than catering to domestic. Two days back there was an article on BBC about malls in Chattisgarh. Yeah Chattisgarh of all the places! As for Jazz bars in Patna, there are no Karnatic bars in Patna either, or a funtion that hosts Shaam-e-Qawaali or Ravindra Sangeet. When was the last time you heard a function about Buddist Monks? Yes you can find them all on YouTube. xxx

Predator_05 Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Some of the [accurate] stereotypes I have developed for all Indians; - Everyone is a vegetarian - Southies eat nothing but idli and dosas - Southies are dark, have thick moustaches and despise the hindi language - Punjabis and to a lesser extent, all North Indians, are ostentatious loud mouths - Everyone wraps up their remote controls in clingfilm - Everyone keeps newly bought items in their cases for as long as possible, ie; if a little kid has a new bike, he will ride it around with the cardboard crap and plastic still stuck on it until it falls off - just for the sake of showing it off, "yeh mera NAYA bike dikh raha tujhe, chutiyeh !". - Every teen studies 17 hours a day for an exam and then some - Everyone has ridiculous supersitutions. The funniest one i've ever seen was with this dumbass who never clipped his nails. He claimed that nails were a symbol of "good luck" and if you clip them, you are taking away your "good luck". I punched him in the kidneys. - Everyone is hairy and has nasty body odour - Girls' have weird bodies which are out of proportion - Everyone pronounces the letter "w" with a "v", ie; "vhere is your textbook ?", "vhat is that". - All paanwaalas are Biharis - All mithai shop owners (Nathu's, Haldirams, Agarwals' etc) are run by Marwaris etc
