Fast and bouncy pitch for second ODI: Curator

Recommended Posts

This might be good for Pakistan (Gul/Shoaib). I think we need to go with Sreesanth for RPS/Zaheer. The team should probably be: Tendulkar, Ganguly, Gambhir, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Sehwag, Uthappa, Pathan, Kartik, Sreesanth, RPS. (rest zaheer). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mohali (PTI): Having taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match one-day series against arch rivals Pakistan, the Indians will now have to counter a "fast and bouncy" track at the PCA stadium when they go into the second one-dayer here on Thursday. The Mohali track has generally been bouncier than other pitches in the country and it would be no different this time around with curator Daljit Singh predicting a sporting Track which will have something for both the batsmen and the bowlers. "It is a typical Mohali track. It will have good pace and bounce. The batsmen will need to be a little careful in the first 15 overs when there will be some movement, after that it will be easy for strokepplay," said Daljit. "The batsmen will have to settle down first. Since the ball will come on to the bat, it should be good for playing strokes," he explained. Daljit, however, said the spinners may find it difficult to grip the ball in the second session because of the dew factor. "In case there is heavy dew fall on the day of the match, the spinners may find it difficult to grip the ball," he said. The organisers will try to minimise the affects of dew by spraying ASPA-AT chemical on the turf, like they had done when the last day-night game was played at the Mohali stadium. The chemical will be sprayed at the ground at 11 am on the day of the match to minimise the dew factor. Meanwhile, security arrangements have been tightened in and around the ground as well as the hotel where the teams have been put up. The stadium has already been barricaded two days before the match with vehicular traffic being diverted in the areas near the stadium. Apart from private security personnel, more than 900 personnel from Punjab Police will be deployed on the day of the match to avoid any untoward incidents. With the match being played on the eve of Diwali, spectators have been advised not to carry firecrackers to the stadium, besides the usual regulations. A capacity crowd is expected for the day-night contest between the traditional rivals with all tickets being sold out. Sport

I will go for zaheer, sreesanth and RPS and drop Kartik from your team.. we have sachin, shewag, and Yuvi to do some spin

I thought about that, but we should have one specialist spinner. I think instead of having 4 specialist pacers and no spinners, we should have one specialist spinner. Remember, it was the spinners that stifled the Pakistani batting in the previous innings(albeit the pitch was helpful..)

Whats wrong with that.. now we also have bowlers to suit those bouncy conditions... nothing wrong with going for such conditions.. Infact Pak is the team that has to be worried cuz of their poor battting lineup.. and we have batsmen to handle tht pace..n bowlers who can exploit tht pace n bounce conditions..

Dew factor comes into play at this time of the year. With that in mind, the team that fields first will definitely win this match, or have a better chance anyway. India should strongly consider playing 4 seamers. Let Tendulkar or Yuvraj bowl as spinners. By playing 4 seamers India can give themselves a good chance of winning even if they are forced to defend a target. The dewy patches in the outfield turn the ball into a sponge, and spinners just can't use it in those conditions - hence why the decision to play Kartik and/or Harbhajan should be pondered over very carefully. Sreesanth HAS to play - no-brainer.

ZP, The Pak fast bowling lineup is a better one than the Ind fast bowling lineup. Are there arguments on this? I agree Ind bowling has improved of late, but on comparison they are the better ones overall. Even before the ODI series began, this was a strength of Pak identified in ICF discussion threads. On a different note: 7 batsmen should be played. Take Rohit Sharma and Virender Sehwag (who can bowl offspin). Good Bye, Ganguly.

I like how we dont churn out turners anymore. Makes us more accustomed to playing overseas and the results are a bit better.

With Shoaib in their ranks, the advantage (re; bowling) tilts in favor of PAK but i'd still say they are quite even. Especially on a seamer-friendly pitch.

Y4C, The "accustomed to playing overseas" is important. But should be done in non International matches. All A-tours, domestics etc in India should have fast pitches mixed in. But not when we play national games. All countries usually play major matches to suit their strengths at home court.

I agree to certain extent but what gives more pleasure. Watching India win an away series or home one? and our pitches dont have unshaved grass so there is bit for everyone. Personally speaking, I like pitches where ball stays high rather than low..just my opinion I think there should be an even amount of turning and bouncy pitches to make things even and testing the batsmen to the max.
