Muloghonto
Kumble was the hardest bowler to keep to, virtually every single wicket keeper who's kept to him has said this. Not too long ago, even Gillchrist said that he would've liked the challenge to keep to Kumble because he was the hardest bowler to keep to. Bear in mind that GIllchrist kept to Warne and McGill. So what makes Kumble hardest bowler to keep to ? The answer is simple- Kumble's stock delivery was a top spinner and Kumble extracted good bounce due to his height. But kumble rarely spun the ball much sideways, he had huge variations in the bounce of his deliveries. This bounce, combined with lack of lateral movement, means that keepers had to gather the ball in front of the body at chest height. Pretend you are a keeper in a crouch and then gather a ball that is coming straight at you at chest height. Its very hard to gather because when you gather a ball in front of the body at chest height, your elbows get in the way of a clean gather. If there is more spin to the ball and you are gathering to your right or left side (as with mega-spinners like Warne or Murali), it becomes a lot easier, because as soon as you are to gather on either side of the body, your elbows have free room. Combine this fact with Kumble having more variations than Murali or Harbhajan ( a leg spinner ALWAYS has more variations than an off spinner)and keepers not having a clear view of the ball 80% of the time (due to right handed batsmen blocking the view of leg spinners and leg spinners using a mid & off stump line as the stock line against righties), its clear that Kumble was a particular challenge. Of the Indian keepers, only Mongia & Dhoni have kept to Kumble excellently (Mongia better than Dhoni), with Dravid barely surviving against Kumble. Saba Karim and Parthiv Patel clearly struggled against Kumble. This makes me rate Dhoni as one of the best keepers to spin ever. Link to comment
zep1706
To me Sanga demoted himself by a couple of places with that innings of his. :cantstop: Link to comment
Marut
One of his worst knocks. The Saffers must have wondered whether they were in the middle of a test match. Link to comment

Sid
Today was a big black blot in his career.Thirimane came in and showed neither the pitch was a minefield nor the bowling was hostile. He just completely botched it,no other words to describe it.Double whammy was he got stuck and due to that pressure batsmen from other end got out trying to up ante.Total debacle and a complete disaster. Like Yuvi last year , Sangakarra will be remembered for this botch up job, more so in this case as this was an ODI WC. Link to comment

Same for Sanga - this was a QF, not a Final, and its not as if the other 10 players played superbly and the team lost only bcoz of him. He made 45 out of 132 they made - so all the remaining players (apart from Thirimane) failed miserably. At least he made some runs, even if it was slowly. Link to comment

Sachin=GOD
You need to watch the game to get an idea how all that happened. I watched it. He struggled - there is no doubt about that. But as I said - its not as if all other batsmen were able to play very well and he was the only one who failed. In fact he still managed to score some runs despite struggling. Link to comment

Struggling is when you try to score runs but can't. The problem here is he did not try. There was no intent. If Sanga had even rotated the strike when he was with Thirumane they would have gotten a respectable total IMO. He stalled the whole innings forcing others to take extra risk. It was a very strange innings from such an experienced player and someone who actually rotates the strike quite well in general. Link to comment

Players can't play their cricket freely. In few months you can see SL gonna be another Zimbabwe team sadly. Any hw Last time for both of u jaya :hatsoff: & sanga :hatsoff: in ODI. Link to comment
