Austin 3:!6 Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Dhoni is well liked bcoz people have this mis/conception that he is this humble small town middle class boy who became a superstar through his hardwork but still maintains his roots.....we all like a success story but when you let t get it you that is when people despise you. He is a humble man...I have met him personally and can vouch for it. Yes he is a poor test captain but that has nothing to do with him being not humble.

Holding on to your kursi is not called being humble....yes on a personal level he might be very likeable but power hungry doesn't equate to being humble.

ThePhenomenal1 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Do you guys only want Dhoni to go as a captain or as a player as well from test team? both. he does NOTHING for me as a test captain. rather he steps down and we start remembering his test positives rather than his recent negatives. he's an odi legend/icon and he can play that till whenever. for tests, let saha come in so we have less to worry about batting and less need for bits and pieces players. A top six of vijay, dhawan, pujara, kohli, saha, rahane would be awesome. Ashwin or someone at 7, then kumar can be at 8 with no worry! Add 3 quality seamers and you have arguably the best indian test side in recent times.

Don't even know what value a rajya Sabah mp even adds lol or the impact one can make in that position :giggle:...it's been years since I last studied civics But as a captain of the cricket team you have more responsibility. I traveled with a politician in a train back in India once, learnt later that this guy was involved in scams and had a couple of controversies to his name,but he was a very nice guy atleast that's what I felt when I spoke to him... :dontknow: but doesn't mean he is not at fault or shouldn't resign/go to jail....same logic applies to dhoni

When you are under-developed, hopes are few. There are very few things in life to give you joy. After a hard frustrating day, one might turn to cricket and want to see India hammering Pakistan in a world cup match, or Sachin hitting some shots. It is like getting drunk to forget your troubles. Except not everyone could afford alcohol or wanted it. Sachin was a similar kind of distraction, hope spot and pride, all at once. Also, because of his conduct and personality, many could be attracted to him, unlike say, a Dhoni's personality Today, we have moved on and people have multiple things to count on. Even cricket has been milked for all it is worth and people just get entertained, they do not carry emotional attachment or memories of each moment like they used to. There has been an overdose of cricket. There are too many hope spots and people are less depressed and fatalistic to begin with Fanatical fan following, etc are signs of a repressed generation. It is not going to happen anymore.

Dhoni has the no.1 fan following in India after the retirement of Sachin and Saurav. Earning is directly proportional to fan following. Dhoni is no.1 right now and no one can challenge it. I think even Sachin earned less than Dhoni after 2011 WC win. Basically aam admi fans are of the opinion that India lose due to the lack of fast bowling arsenal in the team and not because of the stupid tactics of dhoni. infact i wonder how many really know about the blunders in fielding placement, fast bowler management and team selection that Dhoni commits in every loss of ours. There are countless mistakes he has made and within match threads itself they have been pointed out. Not just Indian aam aadmis some of the best commies have slayed him for his brainless captaincy which he calls gut instincts. Popularity thing is pointless. Yuvi was way more popular than VVS Laxman and earned at least 10 times more than VVS. So does that mean, he should have played ahead of VVS Laxman at no. 6 ? And Kohli will overtake Dhoni probably this year in earnings.

They really think he is awesome captain and player, hence being easily most popular player in India (Sachin retired so don't count) and seen as world class super hero. When in reality...... O well in England beckham got same hype and money in football. He was also average as well, so we are not only ones:giggle:
