My dad was telling me once that he made a bet during the 1986 WC that India will qualify for the 2010 WC. He had bet 20 british pounds of the time. Apparently if we had qualified thatworld cup, he would made 80,000 pounds or something along that range

Indians are more suited for standing around watching the ball being defended over 5 days. This non-stop up and down running thingy is not something we can handle.
Bs. We won how many times in hockey again?

FIFA has to be the most inefficient and/or stupid sports governing body in recorded history. India is a major market. The game (unfortunately) is quite popular, and yet FIFA haven't been able to make any inroads. If India were a mid level power in world football, FIFAs would immensely benefit $$$ wise. They should invest in Indian football. It would be a good payback for them later. How can you even call the FIFA WC a 'World Cup" when India and China, around 35% of the inhabitants of this planet aren't even represented. In any WC.
well indians are most unathletic and unsporting group of people ..even fifa cannot help us..if we are good and really have interest...soccer is easy to develop..if african countries can do it..no reason for us to beg FIFA..

We were good in football also then. Came 4th in Olympics, two Asian golds etc etc Indians can only do zilch in today's stamina and speed based sports.

If we take the Qatar route, importing young players from Africa, it could be soon enough. Else never as we don't have the fitness/legs nor culture to play professional football at WC.

So if my understanding is correct ....looking at the way qualifying works 46 teams from Asia will play the first round....12 will go to the 2nd...round,and 4-5 will get a spot in the finals. India's first target should be to reach the 2nd round of these qualifiers atleast in the next 2 World Cup events that will be a start  But the even bigger question is is India part of these 46 Asian countries that play the qualifiers

Again B.S. We are not as dominant in hockey as we once were but we are still in top 10. Look at the windies they were once a dominant side in cricket but arent anymore which doesn't mean they don't have the genes or whatever. When gopichand up with the facilities badminton players did come up like saina, sindhu etc . We may not dominate in football but it doesn't mean we shouldnt be atleast in top 60-70.

India is no match for top European countries and Aus/NZ in Hockey. Hockey on turf is alot more faster than Hockey on grass where India dominated. India still has plenty of technical skill, their attacking flair is often praised in games I've watched. India will continue to be mediocre in Hockey for 2 reasons 1. Less speed, stamina, agility, power compared to Europeans and Aus. Required alot more on turf. 2. Talented players don't grow up playing on turf unlike other countries. They start playing on turf when they are much much older. However you can somewhat negate the speed/stamina/power problem by identifying talent, putting them on special diets and training so they maximise their limited potential in these areas. You can also have more than just the 1 or 2 Astroturf's in major states so talented players get used to them as kids and it's not a shock. For that you need funding. You only get back what u put in India is getting just that. They may not reach the same levels physically but through more funding they can get players to decent enough levels and with their technical superiority they can compete with the big guns again, this time on turf. Koreans are fairly are limited but maximised their potential to become a decent team (No.8) cause they spent the $ , are much fitter than they were in comparision to past, more organised, well drilled. India if they spend the $ can become a top side imo.
