JourneyMan Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Tired of sitting through tournament after tournament without seeing any Indian faces (not even NRI's). Who follows Indian football here? How well do we perform in Asian tournaments and qualifying? Is there any development at all or has India simply given up on football altogether?
Mariyam Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 FIFA has to be the most inefficient and/or stupid sports governing body in recorded history. India is a major market. The game (unfortunately) is quite popular, and yet FIFA haven't been able to make any inroads. If India were a mid level power in world football, FIFAs would immensely benefit $$$ wise. They should invest in Indian football. It would be a good payback for them later. How can you even call the FIFA WC a 'World Cup" when India and China, around 35% of the inhabitants of this planet aren't even represented. In any WC.
undisputed chap Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 maybe never be famous in india because they never get to watch a live football games due toawful timings. They never watch means they will never develop an interest which means they won't play it. Nobody plays & nobody watches means no sponsors which means no development of infrastructure.
vvvslaxman Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 IWW can customize FIFA game I think. Are we there in it?
Zestian Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Seriously speaking, I live in Indore and I play Cricket on Sundays since my childhood at Nehru Stadium (Hope people know about this stadiums story) but since past 2 years or so, there have been a hell lot of football tournaments happening in this stadium, we become groundless :(( Never the less the point is - that there is an immense increase in football tournaments in this part, many state level teams come and play here each year, various associations surfaced, many clubs from different part of the country participate here etc... I have seen some matches and hell ya we have many talented football players in our country... But still they needs proper guidance, proper training, facilities, food supplements etc... We don't have that Infrastructure to make it big... A nice change in this part of the country though, hoping to see it grow... My prediction is, India would qualify for the Football - WC in year 2030...

Germany, who have always been huge in football, started a project after Euro 2004 and they achieved their aim 10 years later in 2014. When China were hosting the Olympic games, they also prepared strongly for it and it was a huge success for them. We need concrete projects with clear ambitions, and if it takes 10-15 years to reach there then so be it.
Vilander Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 If Indian super league becomes a success we would be well on our way.
CG Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 IWW can customize FIFA game I think. Are we there in it? Yup in previous fifa wc games we were there. We can easily mod the new one.
Crookbond Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Women's team seem to have a better chance the men's team. India women's football team grabs 50th spot in FIFA rankings http://ibnlive.in.com/news/india-womens-football-team-grabs-50th-spot-in-fifa-rankings/480762-5-21.html

There has been a wide-spread mentality among the many schools (and parents) that playing cricket is a waste of time since the competition is very high to even get into the Ranji probables. Even my school has dedicated coaching for hockey, football, tennis, volleyball, kabbadi and basketball. There is annual tournament and trophies for everything but cricket. Only the schools in Metros are focusing on cricket. Some schools completely ditched every sports since it's a waste of time, and focusing on studies :giggle: Hockey is still very famous sport than football in many schools and colleges and our college team has a bitter rivaly with another college for decades. Football is still a secondary sport for hockey rejects and atheletes. In our college team football is a primary sport for only 4 guys who are taking the game seriously and it's the same for most of the teams we have played against. Yes, there are more football tournaments here too, but hockey is better organized, better coached and the quality is much higher than football.

Well its that's not a great assumptions to make FIFA may be very Corrupt but they done quite well to make it global sports you could probably get around decent 50 teams who can make even likes of Germany sweat it out for a win in football while in cricket it still looks 8 teams and world cup team numbers are coming down Speaking of India football I don't think think India is going to make it any time soon the competition is to tough even tuff even if FIFA make it 64 India won't qualify or even 128 teams India will struggle to qualify now , It will need quite lot of development Belgium built a team which it think planning started in 2002 and they brought good team in 2014 so for India it would atleast take double time And India don't seem to care much about sports apart from Cricket just look at Formula 1 they gave them no recognition of it being sport and taxed it and with FIFA with so many countries interested they won't be to bothered to develop Indian football unless India shows some interest as well Also if you look premiership and Spanish and clubs seems to visit Asain countries like Indonsia, Japan , Abu Dhabi etc but not India due lack of interest either from organizers and government
yoda Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Indians are more suited for standing around watching the ball being defended over 5 days. This non-stop up and down running thingy is not something we can handle.

Good post with a good perspective ....but your statement might be a bit ott,I mean football is popular in Europe, south America and Africa .....in Asia it is pretty huge in japan/Korea and the Middle East so it has a pretty large presence. But not just with fifa, just like any commercial brand should or have already realized,India/China is a huge market. The biggest challenge is there is absolutely no infrastructure for football in most parts of India.....I am just assuming this and have no numbers to back this but apart from Bengal, goa and Kerala I think the football infrastructure is virtually non-existent. So even if fifa decides to invest starting now,it will take a very very long time for roi....do you think they would beleive it is worth it. The initiative should start domestically before fifa can step in. There is a reason why messi,Zidane etc have visited/played charities in Bangladesh......huge population and not a diverse landscape, great passion for the game throughout the country...not sure of the infrastructure there but if Bangladesh develops atleast some local talents, fifa would see them as a more viable investment.yes,I know they are ranked lower than India but I understand where fifa is coming from.
India-KXIP fan Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Not before we make settlements on Mars IWW can customize FIFA game I think. Are we there in it? Who follows Indian football here? How well do we perform in Asian tournaments and qualifying? Is there any development at all or has India simply given up on football altogether? Need to qualify to perform
vvvslaxman Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Lot of African countries may not have infrastructure as well. So i am not sure that is the reason . What do you need for a football lol just a ball. We do have competitive matches. But unlike some other countries it is not being followed religiously .
vvvslaxman Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Need to qualify to perform I will rename Messi as Virat Kohli if possible and rename Argentina as India :cantstop:
