His name is pronounced not with the sound "d for doll" but rather as "thi" in "this". Name virtually means log stretch of beach.
Thanks for the info. In tamil, I think d as in doll isn't used isn't it? Is that the case with Sinhalese as well?

Same name is written as Sutharshan in English if the person is Tamil and as Sudarshan if the person is Sinhalese. It is used for thesound of d in doll as well!. Can'y use Dh, because it is for a heavy consonant as in "Dharmasena". There are many variations in Sinhalese names since English simply don't have a way to represent it. Dilkwella and Welegedara (we part) may seems similar in English, but is different in pronunciation. Dikwella, the w is followed by a vowel sound of "antics" while in welegedara it is like of "end"

This is similar to Tamil movie 'Ethirneechal' where the hero goes through the same problem with his name and has many awkward situations in school and college.
