Texan Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Ishant Sharma proved in the Lords Test how well-directed fast bouncers can trouble even the most experienced of batsmen and is also an effective strategy against tail-enders. Unfortunately, bowling bouncers consistently does take a toll on the bowler and Ishant could not play the following Test match. So, how about having multiple fast bowlers in the team to execute this strategy. Here's how it should work: 1. Pick Ishant, Umesh and Aaron in the squad for an away tour and give them clear instructions that they need to intimidate the batsmen with fast bouncers. 2. Pick only one of these bowlers along with 2 other swing/seam bowlers to play in a Test match. 3. If at the end of the match, the bowler is unfit to play the next Test, then pick the next option. We need at least one bowler in every match that can bowl fast short-pitched stuff. Comments?

Bowl a mixture of hostile short deliveries and pitched up channel balls. But why only one .... most great test bowling attacks had multiple pacers who could do this if needed. Windies quartets in the 80s and 90s, Thompson-Lillee, Lee-McGrath-Gillespie, Morkel-Steyn. Then, one pacer need not get super tired or injured. Having a pacer who can bowl great bouncers as well as pitched up moving deliveries, can be the answer. Among our pacers, Umesh Yadav cannot bowl good bouncers consistently. His short deliveries often do not get up high enough and stay around the stomach region. Unless he practices bowling a lot of bouncers, we can't use him primarily for this purpose. Only as a support " bouncer". Who are our other options ? Apart from Ishant, the best "bounce bowler" in the country in 2014 is Manpreet.Gony. Aaron can bowl hostile short balls frequently but often end up being inaccurate. I have seen Pankaj bowl good bouncers too. Best bets for chin music in 2014 imo .... Ishant or Aaron or Gony with Pankaj or Umesh as the second fast bowler who can somewhat do it as well as move the ball.

Gony is one of them. One important thing though is whether they can sustain it when bowling lots of overs a day. That aspect we are not sure of.
