fineleg Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Just curious to know. Do any of you have Pakistani friends from school, college, work, social? Do you interact well with them? Respect their friendship, have a good time...etc
Rajiv Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 My first interaction was in Switzerland when I was stuyduing there It's coz of a Pakistani, I started watching cricket ( he insulted India ). I recently got in touch with him through facebook
Brainfade Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 When I lived in Florida, there was a bunch of Pakistani folks against whom we used to play cricket every weekend. We all got along well. Especially their captain - a thorough gentleman, he was. We never really socialized, but I respected most of the fellows on that team. There were a couple of Indians in the Pakistani team, and they were real trouble. I have/have had Pakistani/PPO students in my classes. Smart, committed, intelligent, friendly, outgoing students - all of them. PS: PPO = Person of Pakistani origin (like PIO).
Lurker Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Have quite a few really. Mostly social friends, none that I went to school with though. Generally speaking I have a very nice time with them. It is no different than being with Indians really. Specially for a North Indian(Bihari) like me. Pakistani chaps, in general, are more open and "rude" in their vocabulary which suits me just fine. Also have good friendship with a few Pakistani girls.
Holysmoke Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Yea, lots(in college). Get along well.. why not. We have a good time!
Rajiv Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Fineleg, above all I was married to a Pakistani too!
fineleg Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Fineleg, above all I was married to a Pakistani too! Rajeev, Oh...thats cool. How did you meet her and were your families ok with the marriage?
fineleg Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 Yea' date=' lots(in college). Get along well.. why not. We have a good time! I've had friends too and did get along well. No reason you should not get along well. I was just curious how many ICF-ers have had interactions with Pak as friends. Thats all.
coffee_rules Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I have a weird co-worker from Pak. He was concerned about getting fired from a telecom co (where we work) because his religion doesn't permit him to work for a financial company. The other funny incident was when he explained why he has to use the 'women' style toilets in mens' room, because his religion doesn't permit him to hold 'it' while peeing. I didn't ask him for details, but he said that it was considered 'dirty' even if washed hands later. A peculiar type, but otherwise very friendly at work, no work related problems with any of them.
Rajiv Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Rajeev, Oh...thats cool. How did you meet her and were your families ok with the marriage? LOL, she was hindu pak and no it wasn't meant to be But I'd like to blame myself

Man you have met some pshychos :hysterical: Seriously though yes some Pakistani Muslims are rather extreme. Now some Indian Muslims are like that too but since Pakistan is mostly a Muslim country the extremes there are quite pronounced. A very good friend of mine, an extremely well-educated Pakistani lass, did not pick a well-paying job because it was for a Liquor company and liquor is considered haraam. To be fair to her I think she agreed with me that it was a useless line of thought but did end up not taking the job mostly due to family pressure. As for the holding "it" part that is extreme even from extremist angle! :hysterical:
Holysmoke Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 wow.. none of my frnds are like that.. they all drink, smoke, and all that jazz.. i guess they arent religious..
Guest dada_rocks Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Many, won't call them friends though.... Don't like to socialize with those folks for exactly the reason lurker mentioned ( although he liked that aspect) they are little too potty mouth for my liking....... I live in virtual pakistan it's hard not to bump into these samples
Lurker Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 are pakistani girls more reserve then their indian counter parts..? Nope. do they have any reservations or social and peer pressure when they are dealing wth indian guys..? Nope. how is the equation of indian girls with pakistani guys..? Quite good actually. Pakistani chaps are often very well read and articulate. Specially in company of girls. With guys they can be very maa-behan like but watch their tongue in front of ladies. what is the mentality of pakistani guys when they befriend indian girls..? Cant say. and what is the thinking of indian guys..when they befriend pakistani girls..? The first such friendship for me was the chase of the unknown really. I had not met a Pakistani girl in India of course and so when I met them I did go with some pre-conceived notions. Luck of the draw she turned out to be real nice girl and since then never had the chase thingy. who is more difficult to bring around..? Pakistani or indian girl..? Dont know dont care. So long as you truly respect a girl and are not out there to prove a point they shall come around no matter which side of the border they were born. xxx

Rajiv Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Frankly, I have never met any Mullah Pak. Infact, they were deprived of open partying and liquor ( atleast back in 1995 ), that they were more into clubbing than us You could feel the anxiety on their face, and politics wasn't their forte. Cricket, offcourse is something which we all like But I had another friend was the son of some Police chief, I never got along with him and I later heard that he commited suicide in karachi ( word was that his own father shot him due to some indifference in picking the girl for marriage )
dial_100 Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I had worked with couple in last 8 years. One back in Calif in late 99. The guy was a good guy. He was very upset with the millitary coup and political condition in Pak. He was respectful towards SRT and SG/RD but very harsh on Azhar. I had a nice lunch at his home with his mom and wife. Badhiya khana.... Biryaani and boti etc. Second guy was a okay. He was typical Pak guy. From his face we could make out that he hated indians. Otherthan few bad incidents it was't bad. We share apartment with him as my buddy insisted. We worked together. I would trust Pakistani over many other in the world....
Predator_05 Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Never really met a p aki up close (friendship or even acquaintance) even though there are many here in the tri-state area. Probably because i am too "kattar". However i do get the impression that since many of them have been living here for a long time, they don't really care about all the crap that goes on back home - this applies to most of the young twenty somethings. At colleges, kids of p aki and Indian descent hang out all the time
