King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 That's not the logic if you took some time reading the posts. Ashwin is a better bat than Rohit anyway. So select 5 bowlers to give you options to take 20 wickets as none of the 4 bowlers you select will run through a side. They need backup. A spinner or a seamer depending on conditions. YOY DONT HAVE TO PLAY ROHIT AS 6th BATSMAN TO IMPLEMENT 6 BATSAMN LOGIC If ashwin is great bat and dhoni(someone thinks he is amazing test bat) then great. Have them at 7 and 8. Really strengthens the batting line up and we may not be all out in ONE SESSION!
GautiMaan Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Sixth batsman or fifth bowler, the player has to provide some value.Rohit hardly makes any runs at 6,Jadeja/Ash dont pick up wickets. The squad lacks quality is all i can say.
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Batting can be strengthened by replacing one batsman by some backup.Just adding one for sake of it while carrying out of form batsmen is stupid. Pick 5 best batsmen plus Ashwin and Dhoni can bat.Even BK can hang around. That is enough. We still need bowlers who can take wickets in case batsmen put up a score.4 bowlers including spinner is not enough Dhoni is uselss test bat. Have you been watching him over last few years overseas, embarrassing. Do you need reminding of his overseas average in last few years
Lord Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Dhoni is uselss test bat. Have you been watching him over last few years overseas, embarrassing. Do you need reminding of his overseas average in last few years Doing well enough in current series to bat at 6/7
King Tendulkar Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Doing well enough in current series to bat at 6/7 Why what his average, how many tons has he made?
Lord Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Why what his average' date=' how many tons has he made?[/quote'] better than top 5 bar Rahane
Malcolm Merlyn Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I dont understand. We were bowled out for 150 odd at Southampton. And what do we do?We drop another batsman.NAman Ojha should have been given a chance.

What makes you believe that 5 bowlers will get us 20 wickets? We played our best 5 bowlers this last match, and yet they did nothing. There is no point in addressing our bowling weakness by making our strength, batting weaker. Good batting is the only way for our bowlers will do well. Batting runs will bring pressure on the opponents and thus helping our bowlers. So we need good batting lineup and for that, play 7 batsman + Ashwin at 8.
someone Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Er one mediocre test series and suddenly fan boys proclaim all is well :hysterical: Dude check out his average this seires, nothing good And if so great now, then him coming in at 8 is great and adds strength to weak batting line up The guy has never scored a ton outside India and you write the above, seriously delusional and crazy fan boy Relax, old man. Blind hatred is not going to solve anything. Dhoni, the batsman is the least of our worries today.
mancalledsting Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Insert best Ranji opener over past few years aged less than 26 M Vijay Chepu kohli (captain) Rahane Saha (wk) Ashwin Bhuvi Praveen Kumar Aaron Umesh Yadav
Gunner Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 would rather have Pankaj/Pandey/Ishant for Jaddu If the match wasn't at the Oval, I'd agree with you.
FreakazoiD Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Insert best Ranji opener over past few years aged less than 26 M Vijay Chepu kohli (captain) Rahane Saha (wk) Ashwin Bhuvi Praveen Kumar Aaron Umesh Yadav Is this a joke or your fantasy? Saha is injured, Praveen Kumar is tending to cattle somewhere in eastern UP and Umesh Yadav is getting his visa stamped to get past UK immigration :haha: On the 5th bowler / 6th batsman dilemma, I'm with the 5th bowler, and that is solely down to the conditions. The Oval has traditionally been a flat pitch which assists spinners (Swann has 27 wickets in 5 tests there; Warne took a 12 for in the last test he played there), so we must go in with 2 spinners. And 3 quicks is a must, since nobody knows who our 2 best fast bowlers really are. We went into the 3rd test with 4 bowlers looking for a draw, and look what happened. The Oval is a must-win game for India to level the series, a draw will be equivalent to a loss. So going in with 5 bowlers is a no-brainer really.
Lord Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 If the match wasn't at the Oval' date=' I'd agree with you.[/quote'] unless its a turner, better to have a pacer
Gunner Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 unless its a turner' date='better to have a pacer[/quote'] Ofcourse it won't be a 'turner', but spinners have traditionally done well here. Expect some turn on day 3, 4 and 5. Jadeja is in because there's no other spin bowling option in the squad.
FreakazoiD Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 unless its a turner' date='better to have a pacer[/quote'] Its traditionally a flat pitch. Will be a grind for fast bowlers, especially the ones we've got.

Fantasy of how things should actually be-N Ohja can replace Saha if injured
jatinder Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 BCCI need to draft some zimbabwe fast bowler and all arounder like elton chibura , chatra etc in indian team
express bowling Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Given the set of players we have in this squad - it would be immaterial whether we play an extra batsman or bowler. Rohit, Jadeja, Binny .. whoever is,chosen ... have a low probability of succeeding in a meaningful way. The additional bowler or barman must have decent probability of actual performance. Naman Ojha seems like the only choice. Unless Umesh is allowed to play.
