Don't you think calling this team 'spineless' is a bit too harsh

I think the words like 'clue-less', 'spineless' and 'embarrassing' for this team is really harsh. Yeah we should be extremely 'dissappointed' but embarrassing ,really?? We are behaving like as if this is a team full of ATG test players , who have played 50+ tests, yet couldn't deliver a win against a inexperienced English side. 1) Let be honest, we are unlucky, really unlucky to lose our spear-head Ishant, just when he was in rhythm and top of his form. The other bowlers didn't have any experience, nor have that stamina that Ishant has. Imagine England without Anderson!! 2) We talk about how srilanka able to win the series, kudos to some magnificent 'captaincy' of mathews. But what we failed to understand that the bulk of the batting was carried by sanga, mahela, and mathews (who already played 40+ tests). What their Youngsters did ? Nothing But here we have youngsters like Rahane and Vijay contributing, and yet we call them 'hack'. Do they deserve that? 3)During Australia tour of India last year, they were termed as 'the weakest Australian side, ever to tour India' . But they still had clarke-' the so called best captain in the world', watson, Haddin and Mitchel Johnson...we were also equally weak as a host, totally new Batting and bowling line up. yet we won 4-0, and there was not even a contest. The Darter called 'Jadeja' destroyed the Aussies. Yet Clarke is somehow the 'best captain in the world' ( i am not defending Dhoni here). But when we are here in England, with a side full of inexperience, with no one like MJ in the bowling line up, or even a Micheal Clarke in the batting, were expected to win. Still we won in lords, but how can you expect this side to win every match! 4)Some of our posters in this site, described this English side as weakest ever when they still have world class seamers like Anderson and Broad, and Batsmen like cook and Bell. But when Australia toured us last year we have nothing in terms of experience other than an Ishant (with an world class avg of near 40) and Dhoni. yet they were beaten comprehensively every time. TBH it is very difficult for a young touring side to go and win or draw a series no matter how weak the host side is. Its not that we are playing against zimbawe or Bangladesh in their turf. Lets accept it! so to call a side 'embarrassing' or 'spineless' if they failed to do so is a bit too harsh. Yeah you can call the captaincy as 'spineless' and 'clue-less', with decisions like batting 1st on bouncy pitch full of moisture, as if there are certain Dravid, sachin, and laxman in the line up to come :giggle: As far as our side is concerned i am very dissappointed but not embarrassed!

If scoring 150 odd in each innings and losing a test in 2 and a half days is not what you call embarrassing, then don't know what else is. Even in the humiliating 2011 tour we managed to cross 200 at least once per test lol. I wouldn't even blame the bowling, it has always been like that. It's the batting that let us down.

Throwing away what should have been a dead rubber test on a flat wicket in Southampton, winning the toss and electing to bat in pure bowling conditions at old Trafford and twice in the final innings getting cleaned up by a part time off spinner on a non turning track- I'd say clueless and spineless is the very least accusation to throw. Fine they lack experience - that just makes them more clueless

loss is acceptable like it happened SA and NZ, but we could not bat 90 overs two innings combined in the last test that is what hurt us more than anything else. There is no explanation for folding in 43 overs in 2nd innings that was called spineless. No one was really expecting them to win the series. Most here were saying 3-0, 4-0, 5-0. They at least won a test. I do not think this is a bad team or players are bad after just one match, but to me it looks like players lack communication, words of motivation from coach and captain. First we let them score 60-70 runs too many due to weird, never seen before, tactics like bowling 2 spinners to two new batsmen on a fast and bouncy pitch after they were 170/6. A better utilization of resources is needed.

Listen, people have been making excuses for 3 years, defending sheer incompetency. First it was too many seniors.......and now it's too many youngsters......this is the team our captain wants.....if he can't motivate his players to give him their best......he clearly shouldn't be leading them. His post mach pressers are absolutely cringeworthy nowadays. It's not all Dhoni's fault though. Majority of the players are simply mentally switched off. I'm sure they'd rather be bashing some unknown domestic players for 2 months pocketting a couple million dollars. There is no pride in their performance. A collective capitulation. Don't get me started on the BCCI. In 3 years time, almost the entire team has changed. Only the captain and results haven't.

I stopped reading at "Spearhead Ishant".
Ishant was bowling well and in the bouncy wickets of southampton and manchester could have done better , way better than what pankaj did. He has been consistent this year so let gave him credit where it is due. He is the experienced bowler and hence our 'spear-head'.

No was not due a good performance in Southampton and Manchester.

See I am no Ishant Sharma fan either. The thing is that he took 2 - 6fers in two consecutive tests in NZ, and then bowled really well on an unresponsive trent-bridge wicket (his post lunch spell of reverse swing that triggered england 1st inning's collapse), and then the match winning 7-fer at Lords. Recently he performed well in bouncy pitches and would have done miles better than pankaj in last two tests,if not injured. so pls judge on current form and not on what he was some months ago
