The dose makes the poison. How much? How much above/below levels of toxicity for each pesticide? Let's look at a couple of examples: (1) Caffeine is more poisonous than trichloroethylene. But which one do we drink daily? (2) The lemon juice that someone mentioned has citric acid. Drink 1 cup of pure citric acid and see what happens. It's similar to the "Dirty Dozen" list that a self-styled "environmental working group" puts out every year. It has a list of 12 fruits/veggies that have synthetic pesticide residues. They get that information from US Dept of Ag data. In none of those cases have the amounts been found to be anywhere close to EPA toxicity levels. Based on my calculations, you'd have to eat 300+ apples a day from the worst contaminated lot for the rest of your life to get near toxic levels in your system. You'd die of apple-poisoning before you die of pesticide poisoning! I worry more about food-borne bacteria - things that actually kill. Like Listeria, Salmonella and Campylobacter. Added in edit: Just saw the response with a link to the entire report. Will keep me busy for a few days :-)!
