kubrickian Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 If Kohli, Pujara, Dhawan, Varun, Ashwin, Jadeja, Umesh etc. had played county cricket, they would have adapted to the conditions a lot better and done much better. Its never going to be easy for Indian cricketers who have never played in England before to go and play test cricket in completely alien, tough conditions against players who are born and brought up in those conditions and do well. For instance, if Kohli had played earlier in conditions in county cricket like today, he could have coped much better. Having to make adjustments and learn on the tour is much tougher. All Indian greats like Sachin, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly, Zaheer, Kumble, Srinath played county cricket. Its important because conditions at home are completely different to overseas conditions, the cricket balls they use, the pitch conditions, the weather conditions etc. You are never going to get these conditions in Ranji cricket. If BCCI are serious about building a great test side, they have to send these players to county cricket.

Your players don't even have the balls to last the series and have to return home in the middle like cowards.

Mr Root and Mr Balance stayed and faced the music (albeit badly)

Even dropped players like Sehwag, Harbhajan, Yuvraj doesnt care about playing county cricket and getting back to test team.They have time at home now but are happy relaxjng and getting ready for next IPL. Apart from him none of the current squad players are signed up with county team. Experience of county helps though, at least when it comes to playing in England in the longer format.

They won't even make the second 11 of many county teams the way they collapse like pack of cards.
