With all due respect t you Mulo' date=' sacrificing your life for the sake of your country can never be overrated.[/quote'] it is a bit overrated in the sense that he was one of thousands who did it, with as i said, probably a thousand more who did it for bigger goals and achieved more out of it but Bhagat Singh is batting at top 10 most focussed upon Independence fighter. Thats what makes him overrated IMO.

Whats worse than this, give your life for the country and then be called a terrorist.

Official recognition is largely irrelevant. We have given him mass adoration, mass recognition and even our school books mention him. That is a lot of recognition. I am just saying that it is far more influence and adoration than a thousand other revolutionaries who did more- thats just my opinion. And yes, he is guilty of murder. There is no two ways about it. It was a case of mistaken identity(Saunders) but he did kill an innocent man in cold blood that had nothing to do with his stated target or the reason for being the target. That is something that does get glossed over, but it is a mistake he should've been made to pay for.

In my opinion, he is praised by a very few people, many people still believe in the ideologies of Gandhi. I believe people in this country are brainwashed in such a way that the only leader they see is Gandhi. Father of the nation, got his pic on every currency note, people have stopped looking beyond Gandhi as a reason for our independence. Can you name a few people who have done more than Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji for a start? Yes I agree that there have been other revolutionaries too who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their country, but how many of them were as young as Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji? How many of them had the courage to do what Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji did? Its the intent that made Bhagat Singh Ji great, he was not afraid of the consequences and was ready to face it. Your stance could have been that the other hundreds of people deserve equal amount of recognition as that of Bhagat Singh Ji rather than saying Bhagat Singhi Ji did not deserve the kind of recognition he has been given.

Thank god, it seems like there is at least one indian, bhagat singh, who did more than great hitler for indian independence. I was thinking after hitler we needed to thank Kaiser Wilhelm II for our freedom, you know Kaiser Wilhelm II leads germany to world war 1---> hitler participates in it --> germany is humiliated --> hitler goes on to capture german leadership -->germany starts world war 2 --> india gets freedom. So Kaiser Wilhelm II is the second most important person after hitler to have helped us get freedom. :--D

Bipin Chandra Pal Lala Lajpat Rai Khudiram Bose Binoy Basu Dinesh Gupta Badal Gupta Ram Prasad Bismil. Yes, you can argue that i could state that the list (that is just right off the top of my head, all of whom IMO did far, far more than Bhagat Singh) deserves as much recognition as Bhagat Singh, but that would be sugar-coating it. To my knowledge none of them effed up and killed a totally innocent person in pre-planned manner. So i do stick to the idea that Bhagat Singh is overrated. That does not mean he is not to be rated as a respected indian revolutionary- overrated means to rate someone higher than their value. And i believe that given that Bhagat Singh effed up and there are dozens upon dozens, if not a thousand plus who did just as much, if not more than Bhagat Singh, i stand by my impression of him- overrated.

Hitler destroyed their armies, so India could do what it wanted. it has some shred of logic to it, though not much, because it completely ignores the militancy aspect of Indian independence that was around from 1910s onwards at the very least. One should really visit Kalapani and see how many violent revolutionaries/freedom fighters and militants were sent to Kalapani for a standard '8 months hard labor and then execution' sentencing. Hundreds upon hundreds per year. For decades. My father grew up in the Andamans, so we've heard many many tales and stories of whos-who who went to kalapani and who are the few who made it out. I believe that it was due to WWII that Gandhian path to independence happened. If WWII didn't happen, it would've been Bose-ian/pseudo-Bosian path of militant approach. And it would've worked too, because the brits couldn't have hidden it from the media and India is not and never was as under-educated and under-technologically inclined as Africa. Ironically due to Hitler, we can make a case for Gandhian politics emerging as the dominant political force but not for Indian independence. We were unlucky in a sense that the brits actually had decent adminsitrators- all the Governor Generals they sent us, were not total psychopath types. That is not to say there wern't psycho Brits going around- just that we didn't happen to be ruled by the lord/lady mary antoinettes and stuff of their society. They were racist, colonialist a-holes but normal people. But its a matter of time before a egotistic brutal lord comes to rule and thats when India would've exploded, with mass army defections and stuff. It might've gone a bit more like China then too.

You should write books dude. Although I think in the end, spread of Gandhian idealogies and the perceived victory of ahimsa, is what defines us as a nation - a nation that doesn't look for conflict but concord upfront. And that probably is what helped and still help us being a union despite a hundred thousand different cultures. There is really no nation like ours in the world. Proud to be an Indian.

I just want to remind our Hitler lovers that it isn't just Jews Nazis wanted to eliminate - Poles, Russians, Belarusians, Ukranians, Lithuianians, Latvians, Estonians, Czechs and Latgalians - to occupy Eastern/Central Europe. Read up on "Generalplan Ost". On and FYI, Hitler didn't spare the "weak" including (but limited to) - physically/mentally handicapped people, gays, blacks etc. No matter what "davalopment" Hitler bought, you can't look beyond the barbaric nature of his plans and executions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalplan_Ost#Phases_of_the_plan_and_its_implementation

I think that is a misguided perspective. A historical person of as great importance as Hitler (and yes, he was important- he was *THE* most influential politician of 20th century) cannot simply be seen for one side of the story. That he was a mass-murdering butcher should never ever be forgotten, but neither should his other attributes be forgotten- excellent public speaker, decorated war vet, total idiot at strategy, amazing policies to pick Germany up from the great depression, etc. To do otherwise, is to dehumanise hitler and that is dangerous.
