The top eight ranked sides on that date will automatically qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, while the ninth and 10th ranked teams will play in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in Bangladesh in 2018. Ireland and Holland did wonders in their last world cup. The governing body for this sport is a total failure and joke. They are solely to be blamed for shooting themselves on their foot and killing off the sport. We already get a champions trophy, we don't need a World cup aka champion trophy 2.0. Your thoughts?

You have weeks of meaningless matches before very quick knockout rounds where 1 bad match will throw you out of the tournament even if you have won every match before that you could potential go back to the Super 6 or some such similar format and still make things interesting by still having more teams

Lord Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Associates don't need to play WC to develop.It doesnt even help them playing a bunch of games every 4 years Rather ICC should make mandatory for all Test teams to play associates in a specified period.That way they'll get regular exposure and actually develop. WC is a premier.You don't half the games to be meaningless like the 2011 and 2015 WC has

It does help them from a sponsorship point of view (more money = teams has more money in pocket = better development of cricket = players will give more time to cricket rather than playing it part time)

We both know that will not happen, if it did then it would be a very good thing. Even our Ranji team can play them.

As I said,they can make it mandatory so boards don't have a choice.Right now boards dont play them because they can afford not to. include them in FTP like other teams

Pagalpanti Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Right decision I guess, associates have no way of competing in a 50 over game. Apart from Bangla or Zimbabwe. If Ireland indeed are good enough then they'll beat the bottom two and qualify anyway. T20 is the place where game needs to expand. A 16 nation tournament should be the minimum. Also they need to be allowed to play the big guys, no point having a qualifiers for them and only 2-4 of them get to the main tournament, like in 2014.
sweetaskandy Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 If it is to be a 10 team tournament, it should be 1 large round robin group like 92. Then straight to SF. I feel for Ireland - and also Afghanistan. They are gifted sides and can become competitive with time as afforded to Bangladesh.

India and Pak had one bad game each, against Bangladesh and Ireland, and got knocked out... And then we had a round robin super 8 that went on forever.... The 2019 format sounds better than that... if there is a round robin of 10 teams, and top 4 go to semis... sounds like IPL format
