Lord
2007 seemed great on paper' date=' as people thought it would reduce the number of unnecessary matches involving associate teams... Backfired really badly[/quote'] no it wasnt great. One bad match shouldnt cost you a place in next round, else have knockouts only, why have league phase Link to comment
bowl_out
no it wasnt great. One bad match shouldnt cost you a place in next round' date='else have knockouts only, why have league phase[/quote'] Yup. Exactly what didn't work... Organizers didn't really expect the top 8 teams to have an off-day against associate teams... Hence the super 8 was planned assuming that it would have only the top 8 teams... Didn't work out well... Link to comment

Thats why 2003 format was best.Every game had meaning and you didnt get knocked bcoz of one game.Infact SL lost to Kenya but made it to semis Link to comment

bulbul
2007 format pathetic but 2003 was great If you are not able to beat Bangla or Ireland you cannot blame anyone else...It's not one match loss we lost 2 out of 3. Link to comment
Sonix768
Agree. Wonder how South Africa still choked The infamous miscalculation.. :cantstop: It was like SA need 7 off 2 balls before the rain break.. Boucher hit a six in the penultimate ball. Last ball he played defensively and refused a single :haha: Link to comment
bowl_out
If you are not able to beat Bangla or Ireland you cannot blame anyone else...It's not one match loss we lost 2 out of 3. It was assumed that the top 8 teams would beat the associates, and the result of match that they play between themselves was unpredictable... India had one bad match against Bangladesh and got chucked out... That was the problem... Even in 1999, they lost against Zim, but still carried on till the Super Six.. Link to comment
Sonix768
2007 format was also good but again it favors the top 8 teams too much. Its like top 8 team round robin match with some associate teams for practice. Combined the facts that * India and Pakistan bungled in the first group itself * All matches start at night and goes till midnight * Australia was utter dominant that they don't even give a sniff to anyone * WI and England were crap along with the two minnows in the Super 8 (Bang did well to beat SA though) which made almost all of Super 8 matches one sided we tend to believe the format is too lengthy but in real both 2007 and 2003 lasted same duration. When you have to win 1 match against SL or Bangla and if you fail to do so you cant blame any one. Link to comment

Sonix768
Nikita Miller? He was very poor in his first stint of international career. I thought Shillingford could replace him but may be he still has dodgy actions. And whatever happened to Davendra Bishoo? Link to comment
