155 not out against Australia at Chennai,1998. It came in the second innings where India had to score quickly and give enough time for the bowlers to bundle out the strong Australian batting line up. Shane Warne came came around the wicket to exploit the rough out side the off stump. Sachin swept him for a huge six to the mid wicket boundary. Australia lost the battle mentally!!!!!!!!

When he got out, India were almost there, but couldn't make it finally. He also relished his 241* against aussies on their soil, as he had to answer some hard questions by Aussies who stated that he has weaknesses outside off stump. In that innings, very less percentage of his runs were scored on off side...he doesn't need full ground to score big hundreds...

Both were great innings but unfortunately we couldn't win those tests. Here Sachin almost singlehandedly won us the test and gave a great platform for the team which ensured Mark Taylor's Australians couldn't capture the last frontier.

ya' date=' but the subject was about his best innings... that 155 and other innings might just be behind in the huge list of innings...[/quote'] Praveen, that 241 aganist Australia was gritty knock. It was an out form Sachin battling back in to form. Great determination was shown there it was not an innings of authority from Sachin. Yes I agree the one vs Pak was phenomenal but...

Coming close second is the 143 vs Aussies at Sharjah in 1998(yours truly had the previlage of watching that innings at the stadium).

oh.... some misunderstandings here.. i was talking to a friend here and he was quoting the importance of sachin in that match... sry on that... apart from that, the sandstorm centuries had been the mind-blowing and worth-watching many times... he had some good innings in which india lost as well... for eg: that famous series against Pak in their soil, we had to chase down 325 or something... he had scored quick 142 and holed out in the deep... india was looking comfortable till then, but fell apart soon after....

Yeah, it was for the first time an Indian had scored a century on Pakistan soil. It was bad luck that we fell away after we lost Sachin.

that innings of 241 and 70 odd runs he got in second innings of that test costed india the win in that match becuase he batted so slow and admant on not playing some shots , he was outscored by laxman and even parthiv.

155 not out has to be it. Could easily have been his 136 but he got out playing a silly shot.
You may want to reconsider calling that shot a silly one. You must understand the conditions he was playing in. He was taking medical attention every five overs odd, it was under scorching chennai sun, he was suffering viral fever.... so when he thought he may not go the distance, he tried to complete it asap. Unfortunately, he got out...but what happened to others in the lineup? were they dead?
