This has to be Sachin. His shots are picture perfect the way they should be. Straight out of the book. People confuse good defense with good technique. While Dravid may have had better defense but there were flaws in his technique which were very pronounced. He didn't play shot in easiest of the way. He made even leaving of a ball outside off stump look a complicated thing. Sachin would execute shots in most fluent manner most of the time with things in perfect balance. He may not look as elegant as Lara in flow or Laxman at times, but his technique was unquestionable.

Thats just bullshit . I agree Tendulkar was more compact , in comparison ..but Dravid did not have any obvious technical flaws & it wasnt just his defence which was good . RD actually scored most of his runs in boundries . Scored at a lesser SR does not mean he did not have attacking shots , he was just a little more selective .

Overall, it has got to be Sachin - he was good against bounce, pace, spin and swing. Sachin is perhaps the most naturally gifted player of all time, you cannot play so well for your national team at the age of 15/16 without this gift. Those who saw Sachin bat at the age of 16 would find it very difficult to rate any other Indian player above him. Dravid comes close but Dravid had some minor weakness against sheer pace, but I haven't seen anyone play swing better than Dravid. Gavaskar had the best defense of them all, followed by Dravid. Overall game, Sachin takes this.

Gavaskar would be my choice with Tendulkar a close second. Dravid is a notch below but really good in his own way. I think both were equally adept playing fast bowling, but against spinners is when Gavaskar really demonstrated his superior game. Any school truant who watched the '87 innings at Bangalore will testify!
