First 2 tests for India? That included green pitch at Lords where Rahane played really well. Still it wasn't easy first 2 tests. Ball was swinging for Bhuvi until 80th over when he got 6 fer so there was movement. Just ask Kohli, Pujara, Dhawan it wasn't easy in any test :--D If it was like India Kohli, Pujara, Dhawan, Rohit would have cashed in big at some stage.

If SL tour Aus anytime soon(which they won't) it will go down below 50. Before this latest tour of England where he cashed in on pitches of the kind where Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was making runs, he averaged 30 in England (and he still averages 30s in SA, WI). He's not a great player of spin either - averages 30s in India. He's built his resume on smashing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and the only decent team he does well both home and away have been Pakistan and those on 700 vs 600 pitches(Sehwag averaged 90+ vs Pak on similar pitches). He's got 19 centuries/37 vs Bangladesh/Zimbabwe and Pakistan and I don't remember exactly and CBF checking now but he has about 22 centuries in Colombo, Galle, Kandy....including his and Mahela's favourite SSC PCC and whatever else. This is his overall record vs Non subcontinent sides(i.e including home matches vs them also) Average 44.97, 13 100s in 73 matches and 5577 runs. Average 43 vs Aus, 1 century Average 42 vs NZ, 3 centuries Average 47.93 vs SA, 3 centuries(this includes that match where Jaya and he put on 600 runs or it would be much lower) Average 40 vs England, 3 centuries Average 54 vs WI, 3 centuries In 15 series outside the SC, he's averaged <40 in 11 of them. Never averaged 40+ in a 3 test series outside the SC. Not really an ATG. He's incredible at home vs Pak, Bangladesh and away and has made a careeer out of bashing them. Aside from that he isn't great.

While someone like Sachin has played 73 Tests and averages 50.90. Sanga is hardly an ATG and people need to look into his stats a bit more before mentioning him along the likes of ATG's.

The pitch at Lords was the greenest pitch seen in a long time and Sri Lanka got nothing like that. Sri Lanka's 2 pitches were similar to what India got at Trent Bridge and if you remember, Bhuvenshwar Kumar, Murali Vijay and Stuart Binny all scored runs in that game. Kohli had one bad series, bringing that up over and over again is pointless when he already has as many series averaging 50+ outside the SC as Sangakkara and as many tons(similar average). You know it a lost case when you have to bring Dhawan up...:haha:

Agreed 100%. I just mentioned Sachin's stats as a bench mark and to display the difference between a true ATG and a FTB.

So from saying centuries aren't the be all and end all you now point to his century there?:--D Since you mention it, this is how he had "conquered England in last 2 tours" 2002 - Average 21 over 3 tests 2006 - Average 38.5 over 3 tests 2011 - Average 30 over 3 tests (1 ton when the series was virtually gone) Yeah, truly he had conquered! Kohli's England record is literally his only bad record and the fact that we are comparing Kohli who started playing in 2011 in tests to a 12000 test run veteran speaks volumes of Sanga's prowess(or lack thereof) outside the SC. I agree it is still early times for Kohli - not saying he's an ATG..long way to go but the start is good.

Well we seem to be agreeing with everything but just a minor correction - Vijay averaged 40+ in that series and not 30 and Rahane was also definitely close to mid 30s(not great, but not 30). Also like I said, it is much easier to average higher in a shorter away tour. Taking Vijay's example: He averaged 79.25 in England after 2 tests and 60.66 after 3 tests...Sanga mostly players 2 test series and 3 tests max btw.

Sanga is definitely better than Lady Jaya but he is no ATG. A very consistent batsman in familiar conditions but in difficult conditions he generally flops. Also his high average in Australia is due to one innings in Hobart. Outside that he has done diddly squat.
