express bowling Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Ishant's spell today Good length almost always Around the off stump Speeds -- 135 k to 143 k. Good seam position. Good bounce. Good, sharp , accurate surprise bouncers. Not too many, not too few. Hit batsmen on the body more than once. Consistent movement ... both swing and seam. Mostly indippers and some small away going deliveries. Very few boundary balls inbetween. Pressure was not released. Why doesn't he himself and our other pacers learn from this.
express bowling Posted December 29, 2014 Author Posted December 29, 2014 Umesh Yadav , today, has been the absolute opposite. Bad line and length. Too many down the leg deliveries. Speed down a lot. Bowled 132 to 141 k..The slowest I have seen him bowl. Got movement though. Both ways. His worst feature was the inexplicable down the leg line ...all the time.
India-KXIP fan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Not a single pacer averages 30 this series bar maybe Hazlewood temporarily. Maybe Harris is down now but he's best bowler from both teams cause of his consistency. So it's hard but good job Ishant. When there is assistance he gets wickets like today and last 2nd innings where he got 3. :nice: India's best overall bowler this year. Better than Koomar who can only do well in England imo.

Umesh was bowling 143-146 in his first spell today but Warner got the better of him as he couldnt find his length. The considerable drop in pace in his subsequent spells is something that I have always seen with Umesh. I guess Aaron is the only one we have who can maintain his pace or even bowl quicker in his latter spells. Just has to bring in some more control..

Umesh slows down in his later spells but not like today. He still bowls 135 to 143 k later on ....but not today. Add to that his abysmal line and length and it does not look good.
jhakati Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Ishant was outstanding, all the Ch 9 commentators complimented him. Yadav was garbage.

CSK Fan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Ishnat has been living off such one off performances. Problem is, he has the skills but no guidance. He depends on being fed by others on what to do. No cricketing brain at all. And currently his guidance is Dhoni
India-KXIP fan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 yes before England he couldnt even do well there now he can only do well in England:giggle: PK and RP can do well in England too. There is logic behind it. The fact that ball was swinging conventially well into an innings in England something that does not happen outside it. Bhuvi's strength is swing to get wickets. If Line/Length got wickets we may as well bring in any bowler who is accurate but bowls 110... There is a certain speed you have to have and Bhuvi is 5 k's too slow Without swing he has little to offer. Doesn't have bounce, doesn't have pace, after 10 overs where do you see the penetration at his pace? That's the logic behind that idea. Better to back quicker bowlers to improve with experience. India have not done alot with accurate trundlers in past century so why not back the quicks and hope they improve cause at least they have potential.

Every successful bowler just repeats that day in day out.
bulbul Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Why cannot he keep doing same thing which gets him success? Every successful bowler just repeats that day in day out. Ability. I don't think consistency is easy skill.
asterix Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Why cannot he keep doing same thing which gets him success? Every successful bowler just repeats that day in day out. It all depends upon the complacency and events of previous night... If he's able to give some pleasure to Dhobi in the previous night, he can afford to bowl crap next day... and vice versa...
India-KXIP fan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I think the idea behind Bhuvi is he won't go for many. The "atleast he won't go for 5 an over line" is typical. His main weapon is swing. In Aus after 10 overs he becomes an economical bowler who keeps it tight. That's true he will go for less and he will be better than scattergun's in short term at keeping it tight. But overall results for team will be same because not enough wickets will fall. It's same with scatterguns because they are inconsistent and I admit it is worse cause they go for 5 an over. But keeping future in mind... Now imagine if by being given alot of game time one or two of the quicks improve alot in line/length. Have more penetration and become consistent wicket takers? Would rather invest in that I'd say and take a risk of few early failiure's. Aaron, Yadav, Shami have lots of learning to do and hopefully one or two of them improve cause many bowlers do like Zakk did. Way I see it, one side is better in short run but garunteed to fail in certain countries, one side is worse in short run but there is a chance it may become good enough in the long.

RP did well in Aus 2008 tour too.heck even Irfan Pathan did well:giggle::giggle:BK is much better than both What he has to offer is discipline and constant pressure on batsmen rather than depend on magic balls.Plus even Yadav and Ishant are getting some movement when the ball in right areas.BK will get only more due to his action. Our faster bowlers bowl all over the place.Sure they can improve on that with experience but in same token there is no reason BK can't get stronger and improve pace.At 135 he can be a huge asset with his swing and accuracy. We have not done previously because we had an all trundler attack. And they were not as skillfull or accurate, they were more like lejund:giggle: In a 3 man attack,he can do with quicker bowlers.Variety is important
rkt.india Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Ability. I don't think consistency is easy skill. Agree but you are asking him to become a McGrath. As an International bowler, he has bowled a lot and by now he must be used to his action and able to repeat it again and again. It is all repeating you bowling action at its best on every ball.
India-KXIP fan Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Ability. I don't think consistency is easy skill. It's definately a skill but it can be improved to a certain extent where it is good enough. That applies especially for Yadav. Very little FC and International game time, started with red ball at 17... Unfortunately many 120 kph Ranji trundlers have it :cantstop: One day a quick will come through who is naturally consistent :two_thumbs_up: Quicks have started coming Eventually accurate quicks will too Any prospects this Ranji? :woot:

Irfan did well at Perth when ball swings. Ball does not swing on any other venue in Aus.

Also in consistency wise you can have Great, world class, good, average etc...
bulbul Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 It's definately a skill but it can be improved to a certain extent where it is good enough. That applies especially for Yadav. Very little FC and International game time, started with red ball at 17... This topic is about Ishanth and we have enough sample sizes to analyse whether he really have the ability to be a consistent bowler. I guess most important thing is bowl well when things are not going according to plan /pitch not helping/catches dropped etc.I guess this requires more mental strength than skills alone. So overall ability depends on all variables rather than just bowling skills.
