HippoSucks Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Lillee is overrated.Very overrated.How many wickets did he take in the Subcontinent and WI? More than 90% of his wickets are in AUS/ENG/NZ. He didn't have enough opportunities to play in the subcontinent (and no, he did not run away from it either). He was good in pitches which weren't great for fast bowling (e.g. Adelaide or MCG) and I'm sure he would have done much better in the subcontinent had he been given more opportunities.

HippoSucks Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 The likes of Lillee would have been owned in the modern era by batsmen who no longer fear 8-1 offside fields. Lillee was in an era where batsmen didn't even have proper helmets so were scared of bouncers. So trapping them with swing + bounce combo with 8-1 fields was relatively easy. And in the old days batsmen averaged 30. People thought that was the norm. Now wordclass batsmen must avg. minimum 50+. Plus Steyn had to play in dustbowls like India, UAE, SL etc. for a TON of his games and still has maintained his average and strike rate. I mean even Dhawan and Rohit kinda FTB's smoked Johnson in India. Yet, they struggle against Steyn even in India. There is not even a comparison. Dale Steyn is the greatest Fast Bowler of All Time. And I would even contend greatest bowler of all time as Murali is a chucker and Warne sucked in India. "Dale Steyn is the greatest Fast Bowler of All Time. Anywhere outside of his comfort zone of Australian continent and England he was a failure. What he could/would do,the fact is he didnt do it,while we have bowlers who actually did it and hence are above him in pecking order.
