GOAT fast bowler? Going by figures alone, he's probably the best ever. Especially given that he's achieved those figures in an age of flat tracks worldwide, and ridiculously big and sophisticated bats.
Temujin Khaghan Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 41.6 is the sexiest SR for a fast bowler ever i think... there is a guy called Lohmann 112 Wickets in 18 games in 1886-1896 he and he alone has a better SR than steyn at 34.1 for pace bowlers with more than 100 wickets equalling steyn is Barnes who has taken 189 wickets in 27 games in 1901-1914 at 41.6 never cared about averages for bowlers, its always SR for me

Surely strike rate can't be a vey good measure for everyone! leave warne alone, he is a spinner. he can take his time. yeah wasim is not a big deal with SR. but he is a different kind of a bowler than waqar. waqar economy is 3.25 and wasim is 2.59 both of their average is similar at 23.56 and 23.62 and waqar SR is 43.4 to wasim's 54.6 there are people who would prefer wasim who would hold runs but take more time to get wickets. I admire bowlers like waqar who might leak runs away, but very effective. if waqar was giving away 3.25 during his time, i think on today's flat tracks he might give away 3.85+ but thats fine by me as long as his SR is 43.4

Having bigger bats wont necessarily help as a batsman in test cricket. It may help playing some big shots but with a bigger edge, you have more chance of edging the ball and get caught behind. Being able to defend and stay at the crease is a very important part of batting in tests especially in places like SA and England. Also, wickets in South Africa for tests are generally very good for seamers, not much different to pitches in yesteryears. ODIs, T20s are a different story. But having said that, Steyn has done well in UAE, India, Sri Lanka as well. So he is an all round bowler.
Sooda Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 I dont think Lillee should rate quite as high as 2nd best ever. Marshall, Wasim, Steyn, Hadlee are probably the 4 best pacemen ever, maybe McGrath rounding off the top 5?
