What is wrong with Indian cricket?

We have produced many many world class batters who can bat in any condition. We would have produced even more if we had better bowlers ...against whom our batsmen get batting experience as they grow up. Also, I don't think any team in history has had 7 world class batters who can bat in any condition.

I know this isn't exactly a unique topic' date=' but I'm interested to hear the thoughts of Indians fans, over 1 billion people in a country that idolises cricket like no other and ?[/quote'] they should be able to utilize that manpower. that's the isssue. china and india are more about potential as we are yet to have the full ability to take advantage of that manpower. socio economic factors affects two major areas 1. Australian govt is in a much better position to provide services for its population compared to much poorer countries 2. A more advantaged population can avail those services as well whereas millions of Indians just live day to day in poverty and have fewer choices even at middle class level. so a country like Australia has an advantage with public participation as well The batting superstars invariably come from the metro cities. there are not too many smaller town or village superstars. so many areas of the country have not given us valuable players at all.Infra ,coaching etc have to be established in many areas. at the top level, bcci is coming with many fancy academies.but they need quality input from lower levels A huge 140 million state like Bihar is a non entity in our cricket. long long way to go before we achieve anywhere near full potential.

and also the leadership in sports administration needs brilliant men. you can't expect mediocre people with poor memories,short term thinking tendencies and poor strategic skills to devise a feasible path for sporting success . we have been suffering due to such staff as well. they have made our progress like a snail.

Gets bloody cold in Winter down south, but then when summer hits it gets bloody hot as well, I've seen -7 where I live in winter and mid 40s in summer, and it's a very different heat to what you guys get, it's dry.

If its to do with genetics than pak should also be struggling to produce them.

Genetics has little to do with that country you are in.

India had opened up its economy in 1991. Adopted competive and modern.economic and financial practices. It took around 10 years for the effects of that to set in. From around 2000, our country has started improving economically, infrastructure has improved by leaps and bounds, financing has become much easier, people are working very hard and have become competitive and efficient. Quality of life has improved a lot. Sports in a country tend to improve along with economy. India's GDP is now among the top 10 to 15 in the world. But our huge population has resulted in low per capita GDP and per capita income. But it is improving with time. India is playing a different brand of cricket , much more aggressive, in the last 15 years. Professionalism has increased a lot. We should have a far more dominant team in the near future as the effects of economic improvement spread to a larger part of our country and focus and professionalism in sports increase. Sports infrastructure/ systems improves. Fund availability is already there.

Are factions at play? Quality junior coaching? Development of indentified prospects? Economics? To much pressure on those who do make it?

Wrong question, India does dominate Cricket. They run it!! The only format its not among the top 2 is perhaps in Tests, especially when touring which can be solved once the team finds a pair of good, intelligent fast bowlers. Despite this its easily the best Test side from the SC and dont give me that ranking BS, because by that measure NZ is a despicable team. Which definitely isnt the case. ANd Pak is a very good test side, which isnt the case either!! India is producing some of the most attractive batsmen in cricket and the fact in the last two tours to Eng and Aus they have outperformed the previous sides filled with far bigger and more experienced names proves the point. Also gone are the days where a single side can dominate the sport. Most teams have caught up in terms of player fitness, coaching standards, training facilities etc. Cricket is in a good position where teams are putting up a fight against each other (except when the Aus test side tour!!). This is how it should always be.

The problem with bowling has been worse in last few years only. Previously at least bowlers used to come, make an impact and then fade away after couple of seasons but now they are just bad from the get go...
