It isn't solely based on that .He built an English team which was worse than Zimbabwe into the 2nd best team in the world .Winning the Ashes after 17 years was the crowning glory . Just read how much the likes of Hussain and Vaughan rave about him.

I agree he wasn't a bad coach. Under him England won series in Pak, SL and South Africa and also West Indies. Also he left them with a very good batting unit. However, he was pretty much finished as a tactician before he joined us. At best should have been a batting consultant.

This guy is still our coach??? Since the start of the WC i kinda forgot that we still have this nonsense coach as part of our setup because even during the games they keep showing shastri, and a few former ranji unknowns sitting with the players in the dressing room. The biggest point that he should say is that this team can possibly win the WC despite his own association with the team. That photo comparison with sholay mausi is totally epic :hysterical:
