Umesh Yadav is not a wicket taker either. The problem is some people seem to assume just because you bowl 140+ you will take wickets. If you bowl crap, it will still be crap at 120 or 145. The extra pace doesnt trouble most international batsmen nowadays unless you bowl consistently in the right areas. The fact of the matter this guy has been given enough chances for years and he has shown no improvement whatsoever. Its funny how everyone thinks he is a great talent just because he chucks it at a bit higher pace than others.

LOL 200/2 in 40 overs can easily become 300/8 in 50 overs against this bowling
True but we have to accept that we don't have world class wicket taking economical bowlers. It is all about probabilities and what the team/captain is comfortable with. And with your same argument, if opposition will anyway make 300, then would I not be better off packing my team with players who can bat a bit?

This odi format punishes teams who looking to be restrictive than looking for wickets. Dhoni and his love of using part timers after ten overs and trying to contain will do more harm than good, if they get blasted looking for wickets so be it as the other way they don't even have a chance to stay in matches as we saw on tours of SA and NZ. Dhoni has been dealt with bad and useless bowlers so you cannot blame him completely either.

But other teams bowling line up is not like ours none of our so called all rounders can survive against good bowling attack. With this strategy we have no chance of defending even 300+ and we will chase 300+ everytime. Atleast with genuine bowlers we can think of getting wkts. In last match against australia our bowlers did really well except the first 10 overs. We won against Eng, WI, SL recently because we got early wickets in those matches.

Disclaimer - I have a theory and I might be 100% wrong We somehow think genuine wicket taking bowlers are those that can't hold a bat. If someone can hold a bat, we put them out of that category. If Bhuvi/Jadeja/Ashwin can't bat, they become genuine wicket taking bowlers as somehow, the perception will be that these players are in only for their bowling so they must be genuine wicket taking bowlers. Captain will be praised saying he is aggressive, blah blah If Umesh/Ishant/Shami can bat a bit, they will not be genuine wicket taking bowlers - look above.

To each his own but in ODIs' date=' I prefer an opposition batting first at 260/4 rather than 301/9[/quote'] missing the point again my main objection to your point is you are cooking things up like a fiction writer instead of looking at relevant cricketing action, past and present speculation vs facts. you are indulging in too much baseless speculation that 260/ 4 or that "ability to restrict" is a figment of your imagination...not going to happen in real life

No this is not the case lol Mitchel johnson is strike bowler of australia and he can bat too. Bhuvi, Ashwin are not wkt takers and they cant even bat. Heck Shami and Yadav are better sloggers than them for ODIs. These two are good batters for tests not ODIs.

My simple point is that we really don't have those fictional wicket taking economical bowlers. We have bowlers that can be economical given the large grounds and captain's comfort in setting fields. If these "can be" economical bowlers come with some batting skills, then that would be a better option as ODIs are about scoring more "runs" than the opposition - NOT taking more wickets ( which is my premise - We DONT have wicket taking economical bowlers so stop creating them )

baseless...if you had read or memorized the arguments(atleast the regular ones on the topic) correctly, you would find that successful international bowlers are historically on the other side of 130+ and those with this profile should be given chances we do not see the point of 125mph bowlers and their inevitable high averages that's the crux of it
