Crowe injured his hamstring while batting in that semi. So he could not take the field when Pak batted, and maybe that may have made the difference. Oh, and as for best WC, I would say from a purely unbiased pov that 1999 was the best. The two Australia-South Africa epics (super 6 game + semi) will be talked about whilever the game is played. That was RSA's best chance to win it, but their nerves failed them again when it mattered.

Pakistan in the latter part of 1992 world cup were a totally transformed team.It was virtually like seeing a different team playing.Never in cup history had ataem made such a meteoric rise.It was the match-wiiners as batsman and bolwers and captaincy of Imran which overcame a more balanced English team or arguably New Zealand .

Minus the final l I would have voted for 99.However that 99 final was a farce unlike 1975,79,83 or 87.Also the75, 87 and 92 cups were more open having more favourites. and 4-5 teams having a good chance.

2011 for sure. Never got to witness the other WC which we won in my lifetime so can't comment on that.

Pakistan on the other hand had horrible beginning and were lucky on many accounts including schedule to make semis. NZ had nothing to play for in their last match which Pakistan had to win to make semis. Show me another champion who did not win most number of matches in that cup except 1992. If format is round robin you need to reward the team who wins most matches or one fluky innings like Inzi ends up producing most undeserving champion. If it was any other cup other than 1992 Pakistan would have been eliminated and never made to semis. 1999 Aussies also had chance to recover from two early losses just due to format, if it was 2007 format they would have been out. IMO 2011 and any other cup with similar format is the best since there are eight main test teams they all should make QFs. and to become champion you have to beat three very good teams. Group stage is for minnows and main teams getting used to conditions. I don't know why everyone one wants to make every match very critical.

NZ lost twice to Pakistan, like WI to India in 1983. When this happens, the loser should keep his mouth shut.

2011 hands down

1987 for me. Had really close games with a lot of meaning. Despite what others might say about '92, Pakistan played really well towards the end. If they screwed England on the rain rule, they also got screwed by it against SA. They were well deserving champions and the two deliveries by Akram kind of nail the point in.
