This is my list in order of merit of the most competitive rivalry in history of world cup cricket or 2 teams closest to each other in world cups. 1.West Indies-Pakistan-1975 Almost nothing seperated the 2 giants.The likes of Lloyd,Kalicharan,Viv Richrads,Boyce,Kanhai,Julien Fredericks and Greenidge against Sadiq,Mushtaq,Asif,Wasim Bari and Raja,Majid,Zaheer,Asif and Sarafraz.The 1wkt.win margin atEdgbaston was a testimony to this. 2.India-Pakistan 1987 What a contest seeing Imran,Wasim ,Miandad,Salim Malik,Abdul Qadir against the likes of Azhar,Sidhu,Gavaskar,Shrikanth and Kapil Dev.2 powerhouses of talent at their very best.Sadly both lost the semi-finals.The final would have been a classic if these 2 had contested. 3.West Indies-Australia-1975 a clash of the titans where at their best I would have backed Ian Chappell's team to just nose ot Lloyd's team with his great pace bowlers Lillee and Thomson and batting line up with Ian himself accompanied by brother Greg,Stackpole,Edwards etc. 4.South Africa -Pakistan 1999 The balance of the Proteas with Donald,Shaun Pollock, Kluesner, Cronje, Kirsten and Kallis against the match-winning likes of Wasim ,Inzamam,Ejaz,Abdur Razzak,Waqar and Saqlain made an epic clash.Allrounders v match-winners. 5.England-Australia -1987 The likes of Lamb,Gooch,Gatting,Foster,Emburey and Broad against Waugh,Border,Mcdermott,Boon ,Marsh and Merv Hughes made it like an Ashes contest. 6.West Indies-Pakistan 1979 Lloyd's men were better but remember Pakistan had Zaheer,Majid,Asif,Miandad,Wasim Raja and Imran Khan with the best batting line up.On it's day it would have given a run of their money against the likes of West Indies with Clive Lloyd ,Viv Richards,Joel Garner,Andy Roberts or Gordon Greenidge.

Would have a grand epic if India and Pakistan had won their respective semi finals in 1987. A Ind v Pak WC final @ Eden Gardens that too at their best. Imagine that!
