HippoSucks Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 We've been in terrible form in the past series and we even lost to England but I think we have a decent chance of winning this world cup (at least higher than what most people estimate it to be). Our bowling is obviously bad but certainly improving. The bowling performance today, albeit against a terrible batting lineup, was quite commendable. Kohli, as expected, is coming out of his bad form as well. Our team is probably the best at handling pressure, and that gives us a good advantage in the knockout stages. At this point our only competitors are New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. New Zealand play spin terribly and are a little overly dependent on Williamson/Taylor. If the top order fails, the lower order is mainly consisting of hitters and not big scorers. Of course there was the Ronchi-Elliot partnership recently, but something like that doesn't happen too often. They also very nearly lost against Scotland I think if all goes well, India will meet them in the semi-finals. South Africa looked weak even against Zimbabwe and we all know about their inability to handle pressure. I'm not too informed about the match ups, but assuming they meet Australia in the semi-finals, they will be knocked out easily. They definitely are overly reliant on de Villiers and Amla and they won't always be rescued by some lower order batsman. Their bowling attack definitely looks dangerous, but Morkel and Steyn are looking not as good (from what we saw in their first match). I don't think we have to be too worried about England and Sri Lanka. We did lose recently to England but their batting is extremely fragile. If we manage to get some early wickets of people like Bell and Morgan, it is easy to restrain them below 275. Sri Lanka's batting is also similarly weak being held together mainly by Dilshan and Sangakarra. Their bowling is obviously strong with the return of Malinga, but even he looked out of form against New Zealand (except in the death overs). Australia is really the biggest threat to us and I think the most likely scenario will be that we will meet them in the finals (if that is possible based on whatever the format the World Cup uses). And as much of a fan I am of Australia, I think their bowling can concede ~300 runs. After that it is all a matter of luck, but our team does perform in those high pressure situations and we might just pull through. Of course this is all hypothetical and you can't assume all this from one match, but I think we have a chance - and a good one.
Cricket_Hacker Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 lol. Will get destroyed by Saffers and ZImboks
ViruDilSeKhelo Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 So one game against a crap Pakistani side and we will now win the cup? If we had lost today we would be dumped in quarters? The truth lies somewhere in between. We can win it for sure but so can Australia and maybe New Zealand. We struggled against both recently. Hopefully our players continue getting into form like today and give us the best chance to defend the trophy. I'd like to see Binny play as a specialist bowler, need some hitting order lower down which he is capable of. Not that I think he is Gilly but looking at our squad he seems a good option to add some strength. Can use as a floater too.
G_B_ Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 lets not get carried away.....keep our feet on the ground.
Captain Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Now let's not get carried away. There's no way we are going past the semi finals.
G_B_ Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Would like to see India chase v South Africa. Regardless of the India's prospects i feel the entire SA batting line up hinges around Ab and Amla. Today JP and Miller did save them no doubt. But feel these two fall SA will be in trouble against the best sides. With India it is sort of same. No sure what will happen is virat does not step up. Unlike Australia both Sa and India have 2-3 key players holding up the batting. Sa obviously have a world class bowling attack in this conditions.
Cricket_Hacker Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 India's lower order collapsed yet again. We will collapse yet against against SA
gaurav92 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 India's lower order collapsed yet again. We will collapse yet against against SA Nothing can beat that 2011 collapse v/s SAF :(( Such a shame really :((
ViruDilSeKhelo Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Maybe am missing something but what the feck made you say something as stupid as this :cantstop: Why stupid? If we lost today and considering the way we played in Australia for 3 months - fans might say we will finish 4/3rd in our group and then NZ/Aus (who will finish 1st/2nd) will knock us out. People seem very reactionary on here from reading the past few months. I always thought we will get to semis and from there it's anyone's game.
kosingh Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 England gave us fits in ODIS in Australia , And Eng is not even among the favorites
Marut Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Hold your breath at least until the SF before making such comments. As of now, it appears that we should be in QF.
ViruDilSeKhelo Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 If you indeed did post in earnest am sure an apology is in order-good to hear the reasoning behind it-thought it was more off the cuff-casual :nice: No worries. I am a very rational fan or try to be! If we win this group we will most likely play England, really need to show them who is boss. They have suggested here in England that we struggle against them. Using 2011 wc draw as a reason and recent tri series :giggle:
G_B_ Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 A lot depends on Virat I cant stress that enough. He fires then India can challenge the best. He fails then we might even be rolled out by Zimbabwe.... We need MSD to join the party and play himself into form.
ViruDilSeKhelo Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 The audacity eh :giggle: Personally I don't want to play England. I would rather play Sri Lanka. I feel we have their number and they know it. They are scarred by us big time. If we finish top I hope Lanka finish 4th. Or if we finish 2nd then Lanka 3rd.
TNAmarkFrmIndia Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 You're getting WAY ahead of yourself. India should get to the quarterfinals and could get to the semis if they're lucky and face another Asian team. Not sure if they can compete with the likes of Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
ViruDilSeKhelo Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Yeah If we do finish 1-2 expect sl/eng in the quarters and we should go through though as they say many a slip between the cup and the lip........ :two_thumbs_up:
Lord Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 yesterday we were minnows worse than Zimbabwe and today we gonna win the cup
