jonas10 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Guys like him are why India always wins. Look at Sohail....taunting people is plain stupid. Umar Gul's comments on Sehwag before a match are proof of that. Dhoni has placated Pakistan and now they can take solice in that and lose another 5 world cups :hysterical:
sweetaskandy Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I cant see Pakistan breaking their mental fragility in WCs v India for a long time. They over think it, I think.
Sachin=GOD Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Yeah.....when ICC starts WC for book cricket we may lose to Pak.
sscomp32 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I cant see Pakistan breaking their mental fragility in WCs v India for a long time. They over think it, I think. You are being modest. :giggle:
zen Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 After the horrific results in the last few months, Dhoni probably wasn't sure what India would dish up in the world cup match. And this comment, probably, reflects what he is going through in preparation before the game. Cheer up Dhoni, Ind will lift its game in high pressure games vs. Pak
Pagalpanti Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 He never likes the lime-light does he. Could've easily made a chest-thumping statement but no, classy stuff as always
jonas10 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 He never likes the lime-light does he. Could've easily made a chest-thumping statement but no' date=' classy stuff as always[/quote'] Yeah Pak players like umar gul poke the Indian bear. "I'll get sehwag out cheaply" .... Then he doesn't even bowl his quota. Dhoni placates them and they are happy.
Marut Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Mature. If for whatever reason India meet Pak again in this WC and loses, any arrogant comment will make him look like a joker. Any of the top eight teams can beat any other top eight team on their day and a little humility won't do any harm.
singhprakash72 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 He is being sensible IMO .India vs Pak matches are overrated to a lot of extent . +1
jonas10 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Its more about being smart. Imagine if tomorrow Mishbah said....India will never have more head to head ODI wins against us. Guys like Kohli will take that personally and next day BCCI could arrange a 7 match ODI series with Pakistan. Dhoni has not relied up Pakistanis in fact he has played the masterstroke of making them happy and they will continue to be content with 1982 Benson Hedges matches.
Dinx - the Jinx Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Compare this to what Ireland captain said after beating west indis. He said, its not an upset. That is a bit too much coming from a man who captains a team that plays WC once in 4 years and manages one upset and then exits the tournament w/o making it to the next stage. Dhoni, with 2 WCs and 1 Champions trophy under the belt, can go to any extent if he wants to. But he maintains dignity. Even as a fan.. some of us do feel that this streak will end one day... but let it not end now :) In fact it up until 2009, we have never lost an ICC event match against Pakistan. But we lost one in the 2009 Champions trophy. In a way, that was an end of that streak, even though the streak continued in Worldcups...
jonas10 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 It doesnt matter when the streak "ends". The so called "period of domination" that Pakistanis talk about is 6-4 in their favor over a 10 match sample period. We now have 10 matches played with Pakistanis in world cups and its 10-0. Even if in 8 years its 14 - 1 in world cup matches. THAT is a sustained period of domination and that so at the highest level.

But both are right in their own regards An upcoming minnow team needs to be optimistic and aggressive. Otherwise it will come across as cowardly. And people keep on putting his team down, he doesn't need to do that himself, his job is to motivate his team On the other hand, Dhoni being on the top of the world can afford to be modest. Because it comes across as magnanimous TLDR; Life hack 101 - When you are trying to make a name for yourself, be confident and brash and the world will take notice. When you are on top, be magnanimous, modest and generous and the world will love you.

Dhoni, with 2 WCs and 1 Champions trophy under the belt, can go to any extent if he wants to. But he maintains dignity. There are two sides of a coin. From a captain's perspective, how do you motivate your team in a major tourney? Telling them that the players are just here to compete and make the numbers, or making them believe that they are here to win. If they are here to win, then how they react to everyone including the fans through the media is important. It is because of comments like what the Irish captain made, everyone, including the players, believe that they cannot be taken lightly. India is not a powerhouse when it comes to sports. Take soccer for example - imagine that India qualifies for the world cup. How do you want your captain to make comments - appears dignified and say realistically that the team would be lucky to even draw a game or say that the players will make the most of the opportunity and believe in themselves that they can win. If you don't take yourself seriously, who will? Since India is not a great sports country, many of us think that dignified comments (as if they are suppose to come from a politician) that look good in media are appropriate. It is as if we know, we cannot back our words so let's play it safe. May be the culture is such that we focus on what he/she said and don't want that to boomerang rather than accepting that expressing emotions is human. Whenever Australia toured India, the captain said we are going to win here. Even if they lost, they passed that idea to future teams, and, eventually, they won a test series in India after a long time! How many of us think that Ind will win a test series in Aus in the near future? I would have preferred it if Dhoni had thanked the teams of the past for playing so well against Pak in such high pressure games and shown confidence that future teams would continue to do that. Everyone knows that nothing is permanent and that's not for debate - but saying things like what Dhoni said can make the teams/fans feel low rather than feeling that we own Pakistan in high pressure games and that we will triumph no matter what the opposition throws at us. There is a saying - where there is a will, there is a way. From a psychological perspective, it is important to pass the baton positively to the future teams and maintain that pressure on Pakistan. Don't forgot it took us a long time to come out of the Sharjah type of losing streak where Pakistan had somehow cultivated a psychological advantage, and Pakistani captains such as Imran knew how to maintain it. Thanks to the new blood that came in late 90s onward that Ind started to turn things around "There will come a time where we will lose to Pakistan in a World Cup" is one of the most unwarranted comments by a sports captain. Because India lacks a sports culture and the killer instinct (in the spirit of being realistic), not surprisingly, many of us think it is an appropriate comment. It is not a captain's jobs to sound politically correct or give hope to the opposition. Like an army general, his job is to extinguish any such hopes and make the opposition think everything is lost even before it enters the park :icflove:

amiret Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/content/story/832745.html DHONI : " Yes, we are proud of the fact that we have done it, but if you just see the stats, India-Pakistan stats, we are way behind when it comes to that. They have really dominated. I feel definitely the World Cup is something that we can, to some extent, be proud of, but overall you have to see, they are a fantastic side. They don't have the kind of players that they had, but still, if you see from a talent point, they've got good fast bowlers." :omg: MSD has become a Paki troll. He is mentioning facts and stats. How many indian cricket fans will agree with dhoni that Pakistan have " really dominated " ? Maybe Dhoni is a regular user Statsguru.
Asim Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 ^ or may be he is bit more sensible than his fans :D
