Looks like SL will finish third. NZ will finish first... Which means we will face : SL @ SCG and NZ @ Auckland

Sri Lanka and England will end up filling the remaining 2 spots Irelands’s win over West Indies and our victory over Pakistan have opened a realm of possibilities that are favorable to us. Some of the scenarios could be as follows Ideal case: SA losing only against India, India winning all (safe to assume if we are good enough to beat SA). Obviously we finish first Next best: SA winning all, India losing to only SA: Obviously we’ll be finishing second and will avoid facing Australia/New Zealand Now the bad scenarios: Scenario 1: SA win all, India lose to WI and SA, PAK win against WI(don’t see WI beating both India and PAK) => SA will end up winning 6, India and PAK will both end up with 4 wins and then run rate will determine the second spot (provided no more upsets by Ireland) Scenario 2: SA win all, India losing to both SA and Ireland (Upset :nervous:), India winning against WI => India will be competing with either PAK or both PAK and Ireland for the second spot. Run rate again important. Scenario 3: SA win all, India losing to both SA and Zimbabwe (Upset :nervous:), India winning against WI => India will have to compete with PAK for second spot or can straight away finish second if PAK loses to WI. Run rate again important. (provided no more Upsets by minnows) The thing is our win against PAK and Ireland’s win over WI has made it a lot easier for us to finish second. Even if we have an upset loss or lose to WI, we can still end up second if we have a decent run rate. In all likelihood we will be facing England/ Sri Lanka. Even an upset and SA loss cant stop us from finishing second :--D Remember , If India faceEng, it will be at MCG where Eng has high chances of winning against Ind .If India plays SL it will be at SCG. Check ICC schedule.

Check ICC schedule.[/quote'] Ya finishing second and facing Sri Lanka @ SCG seems to be a marginally better option. England bowlers at MCG especially against India will be no push over. Sri Lanka can also be a tough team in knock outs though..

Malinga's out of form and not like he ever did good against us. Herath is manageable and kula and lakmal are awful. Their batting sucks as well apart from Sanga and Jaya. We should fancy our chances against them.

jonas10 Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 NZ is almost certainly going to top group A with their giant NRR after reaming England. Actually looks better for India to finish 2nd. They'd get to play either Sri Lanka or England and likely face NZ or WI/Pakistan in semis. Much better than going through Australia if they top the group. I'd love to fantasize that Pakistan could beat NZ or Australia and we could have a semi final rematch....but it would be just that...a fantasy.
MK55 Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 New Zealand's run rate is not of much significance. Even if tomorrow's Aus-Bang game gets abandoned, it won't make a difference. On current form I don't expect New Zealand or Australia losing to any other team except one of them losing out to the other. So the top 2 spots are almost guaranteed to them and the first spot will be determined by the 28th Feb match.

How big of a disaster would it be if we beat SA and then have to go through Australia to get to the finals. I only want to beat SA if we can face NZ semi finals.
