If I remember correctly it was just 1 (Bowled by Raina). yeah 1 over from Raina out of the blue and that was out of nowhere. Can't recall if Raina bowled to change the ends or other bowlers or not

Dhoni continued attacking in the first game. He did bowl Raina for one over but again it might have been just to see if there was anything at all for him on this pitch as Umesh Yadav was going for plenty. His captaincy was great yesterday and his field placing was spot on. If Indian bowlers stick to their lines, Dhoni is a great captain. If they start spraying it around, then he goes defensive.
Austin 3:!6 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Superb captaincy. Kept slip fielder when Maqsood came into bat and leg slip when Akmal came in. Those close in attacking fielders were the reason Pakistan middle order collapse started. Something Misbah did not do. When Raina came into bat he served him with gentle leggies with no close in fielders. That is the difference between MSD and Misbah as ODI skippers. The problem with Dhoni is he used to try the same methods in test cricket as well, as a result he was a failure.

He definitely seemed more confident leader in 2011 campaign with half decent attack at his disposal.

Leg slip for spinner is fine, the thing with Dhoni is he has leg slip for the pacers as well. It only works when you are trying to bounce the batsman out fending down leg, but with the bouncer limit in ODIs that seems to be a waste of a position.
HippoSucks Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Dhoni takes a lot of heat unnecessarily. His fielding placements are quite good especially in ODIs and he knows how to vary his bowlers. He does sometimes use part-time bowlers ineffectively but it is always good to change up the bowling every now and then.

With years at the top and unlimited powers isn't it his job to have a bowling strategy? Not to mention some ridiculous field placing and asking bowlers to bowl a certain way which kills their natural talent.

He has to switch off in between to save his sanity. This is what it seems to me. When he is present 100% mentality he is not so bad.

Hardly did anything different His captaincy has been different this tour ever since Kohli emphasized on more aggression at the start. V Pak when wickets fell, he usually used to go for containment but we could see actually went for the kill. Very unlike MS. Maybe with his head clear now with test retirement he can become a better-more pro-active OD captain
CoverDrive Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 dhoni can be a good captain if he is upto it and is charged up like in these big matches. in some of the matches like away tests etc. when things don't go his way you feel he starts to care a little less
